    Target range/distance question

In USPSA Production or Limited, at what distances are the targets?
    Thanks much.

Every division shoots the same stages.

Usually between point blank and 25-30 yards, really depends on the range and the match director/stage builders.

Sent from my fingers, to your face.

Thanks. I know I'm a pain in the a**, or so my wife tells me,, but at 25 yards, the same scoring silhouettes and 8" to 12" plates, one or the other, both? Like to practice at the correct ranges at the correct sized targets before I find a group that may be silly enough to accept me.

All USPSA divisions shoot the same stage. Distance varies with the stage each time, usually 1-2 yards out to 35 yards. For steel (poppers, falling plates, Texas Stars) no closer than 10 yards, sometimes out to 35 yards. If you want to practice use 3 standard USPSA targets at 7-10 yards and practice transitions under the clock while moving.

Best thing you can do is get to your nearest match and see how things work, whether it's USPSA or IDPA. You will also need a good belt and holster, not a WalMart belt and Uncle Mikes holster, I recommend the BladeTech straight drop belt holster and the Wilderness Tactical original 5 stitch. For USPSA production, you will need at least 6 magazines, and 4-5 mag pouches. If you have any money left over get electric ears, Peltor Tac 6 on Amazon for $55. USPSA matches usually burn around 225 rounds.

USPSA paper targets are scored the same no matter what distance, plates are either a hit or miss (gets a bit more involved when you talk about different scoring systems ).

The only time paper targets are scored differently is depending on if you are shooting major or minor.

Best way to learn is just get out to the range. Many Clubs require an intro class, where they go over a lot of the basic rules involved.

Thankis all. yes, I've downloaded the rules and have read a lot of other info. Fascinating stuff. Was just unclear on the ranges. I think I have some nice firearms for Production, Sigs, Glock 34/35, SA XDM 5.25 comp, 1911's (single stack) and some CZ's I just love but not sure what I want to start with, but I'm thinking the SP-01. I have been looking into BladeTech and even have an add in the WTB forum, but I don't want to spend a ton of money on equipment that I'll never use. Should pick one or two guns I guess and grow from there. Ah, but which ones. Need to go out, observe, meet and talk to people.
I have a couple of CZ Tactical sports in 9 and 40. Would these be Limited or only for Open (yea, get my butt kicked? I would think Limited.
            Again, thank you.

I'd stick with the glock or XD at first unless you are really comfortable starting from a DA position.

Well, there are some older standards that are out to 50 yards.. most shots are inside 25 but I generally zero my pistol to 50 yards.. anything inside 50 will definitely be "on".. I've seen people who zero at 10 start missing when getting past about 25 yards..

"really comfortable starting from a DA position."

Nah, I've been a range guy. Not knocking it, I love it. Just want to move, physically, outdoors.. The K9 aspect of my life has slowed (besides my wife thinks I'm too old to get continually bulldozed by 90lbs dogs flying through the air at full speed anyways), love the range but I just have the need for more and think this would be perfect.

Too bad, I shoot the CZ's the most accurately, but I have no issue starting with the Glocks and XDM. Love those too. Plus keep the initial equipment acquisition costs down as well. Thanks awfully everyone for the advice and any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Start with your G34 in USPSA Production. I don't think Laguna Seca runs USPSA, but you would be SSP in IDPA.
