Bravo on improving your handgun skills!
Changing grip to reach magazine release is common.. very common.
Ideally, if the shooter has the physical structure to reach mag release without changing grip. Good . If not, adapt.

Work with what you have because you will never know what gun will be in your hands. 99% of Semi-Automatic pistols out there have similar controls, but of different size and shape
I compete in all action shooting. I HAVE to adjust every pistol I use. After a good amount of practice, hitting the button is secondary next to seating the next mag smoothly and quickly.
Try this:
If you are going to hit the button strong handed. You slide your gripping fingers to the center of the front strap to give your thumb reach to the mag release.

I have large hands and have always found that my grip changes slightly while doing a reload with any size auto-pistol (single stack or double column type). I think it is not only acceptable, but absolutely normal. As with anything, this requires some practice to make it perfect.
The mention above about sliding strong hand gripping fingers to center of, or toward center of front strap is totally on the money. In fact when I was learning, this just happened naturally for me and I never thought anything of it, just did it.Comment

Get the 21sf. I CCW a 21sf and use it in uspsa. The 30sf is just as wide but saves a little on the grip and muzzle length. To me it wasnt worth the trade off and a full size is always your first choice if possible. To your question of reloading the 30sf wont do anything to improve that vs the 21sf.Comment
