Just because they are running a deal isn't a reason to give them your money.

That's an interesting comment. Given that there are all sorts of well-respected trainers who haven't put in the amount of serious work you have before starting their training businesses, what do you think is the dividing line? Are you not well-enough trained? Do you lack communications skills? Or is it something else?
Having read many of your posts, it certainly seems that you - for example - have the requisite knowledge base to create a decent curriculum and teach it.

While that may be somewhat true, I personally feel if I am paying someone to teach me something they sure as sh#t better have done that thing I am paying them to teach me.
For instance, when I go take 3 gun competition privates, I am paying a past national champ to instruct me in the 3 disciplines of 3 gunning.
Just like when I do a course on clearing a building or working in and around vehicles, I want that guy teaching me things that have been tried and true via experience.
I can communicate fine, and sure I could offer up the Virus Tactical Rifle/Pistol 1.0 courses. But why? There are soooooooo many guys that are so experienced with operational / competion records that are amazing. It seems almost fraudulent to me.
Sure I have instructed people in the basics, for free.
As I stated to the OP, he could do better. Just as if Virus Tactical was an option, there would always be better options out there, always.Comment

I will speak to the pricing and I hope it gives you an idea of what the competition looks like.
The average open enrollment training rate from a Navy SEAL, CAG operator, Army SF or LA Metro SWAT is somewhere around 30 $/hr. These are people that have really ****ing been there and done that and some are written about in books like Dalton Fury's "Kill Bin Laden". (see Alias Training for more info)
To get training from a Marine with over 20 years experience and multiple deployments is about 18 bucks/hour. (See Academy of St. Crispian)
A POST certified SWAT officer is about 21 bucks/hour. (See Gray Ops Fire Arms Specialty Training)
A basic NRA pistol course is about 12 bucks/hour.
The most expensive I've seen have been 33-60 bucks/hour. Trained by civilians who have no real accomplishments.
It is your money so it is your call but I wanted to help you out in making a good decision by giving you some data. Have fun and be safe.Comment

Whatever training you attend, stay away from the scuba diving shop...

I noticed that they somehow managed to remove most of negative reviews on Yulp...
even if all the negative review and rumors about them were false, they are still charged WAY overboard.
$250 for a 5 hour AR intro class, (not including ammo and range fee) and only one hour trigger time?
Their "Three Gun" class is even more outrageous. It's not the 3-gun competition we are probably thinking about, but simply let people shoot three different guns then charge them for $379Last edited by Lugiahua; 10-24-2012, 1:32 AM.Comment
