    AMMO for Newbie ...

So, its done, I am now a proud owner of CZ 75 SP01 9 X 19 Tactical. My very first one .... So, my question is on how to approach AMO expense. Does cheap amo perform differently than premium? That is if I practice with AMO "A" and keep at home for HD AMO "B", will there be a potential for variance in "accuracy behavior" so to speak, is cheap AMO just bad for your wear and tear and safety, or is there also a performance difference ?

    Thanks.

The weight of bullet or pressure of the load certainly different, especially in longer range
It is not necessary, but good advice (when applicable) to use same weight of bullet in both training and self-defense.

I shoot cheap Russian or reload in trainings, since I can't afford to shoot Federal HST or Hornady Critical Duty all the time.

But most importantly is that you have to shoot the defensive ammo sometime, making sure that they do cycle in your weapon.

That's ammo, as in ammunition. AMO is the American Maritime Officers. The main difference between 'practice' and 'premium' is the bullet construction and velocity. You will not notice the difference in accuracy between the two with any good quality ammo. The fundamentals of shooting a pistol, stance, grip, sight picture and trigger control have make a much greater difference than ammo (not junk reloads or Amerc).

        HighLander51,
Thank you, of course its Ammo, I am not very bright ...

So do you mean that in the beginning quality of Ammo is just not that important ?

        Lugiahua,

By reload do you mean home pressed ammo ?

        thank you all !

The ability to shoot far outweighs the quality differences of good ammo. Reloads means reloaded ammo, not pressed (you gotta get the lingo right), which is ok if you reload it yourself, but don't use reloads otherwise.

            I agree with this.

Most people shoot reloads and target factory loads for practice and use the expensive hollowpoints for self defense.

Here is what I do. I buy whatever I can find cheap to shoot for practice. Then I buy 50 rounds of hollowpoints for a particular gun. I fire 20 rounds of the hollowpoints out of that box to test they feed correctly in that gun and load up the rest into magazines for home defense.

I personally shoot the Winchester ranger law enforcement ammo for home defense because it is what my local sheriff uses. And because they are less expensive than some of the other options.

This^ Use your money to buy as much target ammo as you can to shoot as much as you can. Use the rest of your money to get proper training.

If you go to the range with wheel barrows full of ammunition and dont grip the gun correctly, stand correctly, and press the trigger correctly you are going in the wrong direction. Get some basic training to get the fundamentals taught first. Then bring in the wheel barrels of ammo to practice your newly learned grip, stance, and trigger press.

It will take wheel barrels of ammo to get to where you want to be.

                  6 or half a dozen

Whatever you choose, make sure you run enough of the "self defence" loads through your gun to know that it functions reliably.

                    ^^

I shot couple thousand rounds when I first bought a firearm, and had little to no improvement.
It was until I took a few intro to handgun courses, that realized how bad my shooting style was.

nowadays, I shoot whatever cheapest but safe ammo for training and practice, such as Bear, Tula or Freedom Munition reloads.
but keep a few magazines full of Federal HST/Hornady Critical Duty for defense

If cost is the main consideration and you want to get as much range time as possible on top of dry firing, then get a CZ 22LR adapter kit.

                          Hello again guys,
By reloads do you mean its jackets that were already used but "reloaded" thus much cheaper "

By "dry fire" practice do you mean just exercising stability and trigger pull ? my understanding is that on some models, dry-fire damages firing ping or something along those lines. In my case its CZ 75 SP01 tactical.

What would you say about pressing ammo at home with the ammo kit, etc ...

                          Thank you !

Reloads refers to the case, not the bullet. The spent brass is tumbled clean, the reloader punches the primer and rounds the case, then the bell and powder drop, then bullet seat, then crimp, out pops a 'reloaded' round.

It's called reloading, not pressing. Pressing is for cigars.

Like this, on my Dillon Square Deal (4 stations), the Dillon 650 is faster, and the Dillon 1050 is amazing.
