    Going shooting

Well me and my group that I consider shooters are going to another USPSA match today just like every Saturday.

Instead of talking about shooting and tactics we are actually going to go pull a live trigger. Stress of the clock, various distances, various positions, speed, accuracy, concealment, test my ccw gear, work on movement, work on reloads, work on basics fundamentals, and spend a whole $30 to do it. No youtube, dry fire in the living room or talking about shooting on a forum. Just the real thing.

I might even go for a nice 2nd tactical video if we can think of something really good. Those that are shooting today will see this when they get back and those reading this need to get off the computer and go practice!

haha youre right I should practice, its funny to think about going to a range I can go outside and shoot off my porch I was actually hunting coyote yesterday morning from the top of a grain silo they were sneaking on the fence line going after my chickens.

I almost forgot what it was like to live in LA but it makes me appreciate where I am now that much more. have a fun and safe day, looking forward to video.
... Hmmm I have a helmet camera I use for riding... I wonder if youtube allows coyote hunting vids.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. All that gamming might get you killed in the real world. After all gamming does NOTHING for SD. LOL (I hope my heavy sarcasm is relayed in this post!)

Where do you shoot? I have been doing a practical pistol match in Piru and have had a great time. It is all steel targets but there is also lots of movement and blind corners and lots of other stuff. It is a lot fun.

We shoot at Norco which is called Norco Running Gun. I choose to shoot USPSA from concealment because I CCW the same way. What ever gun I am carrying is what I shoot for practice. Currently I am in love with my 1911's so I have a Springfield TRP to use in USPSA and ccw the Springfield Professional which is just a custom shop version of the TRP.

It was a good day and tried to go too fast 1 stage and choked with a "no shoot" and a few "mikes". I put the brakes on and finished the remaining 5 stages strong. The all steel stage was "24" 6 inch plates including 1 texas star. I shot the stage in 27 rounds and shot the star clean in 5 shots. That was our first stage so this was what I was able to do cold and I was pleased.

The way I choose to play the competition thing is from a practical stand point and I am not classified. I shoot from concealment mostly and test my gear. Its comforting to have a solid day and put my 1911 back in my Milt Sparks VM2 and leave the range with the same gear and skills that I know work.

No vids this week. Camera man was sick so I will do some brain storming for next week. Any ideas on what I can do that is tactical that is supposed to be beyond my skill level would be appreciated. I would love to run something that the tactical librarians consider too difficult for a USPSA guy like me and see how I do.

                Nice!

I shot IPDA with my G27 from under shirt concealment last week (no vest) and used my SD ammo as well. It's great to walk out of the range carrying the same rig and with the confidence of just shooting a match!

With respect ... I'd not use the word "tactical". But if you are sincere, I have many suggestions. For one, I'd honestly love to get together with you sometime in a shoot house with Glock Blue-Guns or General Dynamics Sim Guns. Getting welted up a lot induces a different kind of stress (notice I just said "different") than what you are used to, and the experience would certainly settle some questions in a very direct way. That's not a challenge or threat of any kind, in case you are wondering.

That's not my only suggestion, but I doubt that you are really looking for anything more than some ideas for clowning around.

Have fun. Your shooting skills are no doubt excellent.

That would be something I want to do. I would love to do a simulations course with those paint bullets. That would honestly be as close to real life practice I could get.

Where do they do these at?

Blackwater/Academi (example) does courses which include several FoF exercises with actual sim guns. A cheaper route might be seeing if your local PD or Sheriff department needs people to play "bad guy" in one of their hostage-rescue trainings. I'm guessing you could find an "in" within the group of people you shoot with.

Paintball is to be avoided altogether (IMHO), because the equipment is too unlike the real thing.

Quite a few well-known companies do FoF training with airsoft ... not quite as good as sim guns, because most don't use actual marker rounds. Rather than suggest a school you may not like, my suggestion would be to pick one you DO like and proceed accordingly. (I may be putting together some "training groups" for this kind of thing in 2013, in order to reduce the cost of participation)

I'm starting in with competition in 2013. If you did some FoF ... could make for some epic comparisons and conversations!
