Para's Power Extractor is great, until it breaks.

    Trigger pulled, mushy, OODA.

Observe: Slide is out of battery. Look in port.
    Orient: Ah, its a doublefeed.
    Decide: Remedial action drill.
Act: Strip mag, rack, rack, rack.

Observe: Case still in chamber. Extractor missing
    Orient: Arghhhh!
    Decide: Solicit Calguns for information.
    Act: Post on interwebs.

Yes, I know there is a handgun subforum but I would rather have info from shooters than the 9 vs 45 crowd. When I was buying all the little things for the gun the interwebs said to leave the stock extractor in until it breaks. Well, it took 946 rounds to break. Granted this is my first 1911, 946 rounds seems pretty low.

What is the most reliable 1911 extractor for a double stack para in .40?

I'd go with the Para Ordnance extractor, made by EGW. Not sure who else is selling them.

I went with the EGW sleeve and standard extractor. Para is offering a non sleeve extractor made by EGW also. Lot of information on this issue on Brian Enos forum and the 1911 forum.

My para was 1/3 the price but I am saving my pennies.

Did you shoot all 946 and not cleaned it? Damn that gun looks dirty.
What ammo were you using? If reloads, what powder?
It's a 1911 not a Glock, you got to keep those 1911's cleaned and oiled.
The most I will run my Para's and S&W 1911 before I clean them is no more than 500 rounds.

I have probably cleaned it twice.

Reloads, ~925 were my minor load with 700x, the extractor broke while I was working up a major load with 231.

Something I am learning. Everything I owned before this has been plastic. Do you need to lube the extractor? I lube the bushing and the rails.

I was going to ask the same question. I have shot 1000 rounds in one day and mine has Never been that dirty.

I clean my STI's after every practice or match but that is just me................

Just means I am constantly cleaning it but it only takes 15 minutes.
