    Front Sight promotion???

Let me start off by saying that I am a fan of the training at Front Sight. I have bought additional memberships and have both sold them, and given them away to friends and family.

This latest promotion has got me confused, and I hope that those more in the know can help me out.

I am wondering if this guy is completely freaking nuts? I am getting emails saying that I if I buy some more memberships, he will give me an extra one for each that I buy-----Plus 20 memberships------Plus a gun.

This is starting to really scare me. Do you guys think that this is the final verse of Front Sights swan song? I don't see how he can possible make money by training thousands for free.

I like going there for training and am scheduled to go again with friends in October. I am wondering if I will find a vacant facility when I get there.

His goal has always been to reach 90% of the gun owning public.

So are you getting in on the promotion?

If you are a member, you are "getting in on the promotion". So yes, I am getting in on the promotion. Am I running out and buying a bunch of additional memberships at the last minute to speculate in FS Diamond memberships? No.

Piazza is a fanatical promoter. And the only thing that ever wins in life is persistence.

          He's being very persistent......

Last year I took the "Advanced Tactical Handgun" class. This was shortly after the first $250 diamond membership offer. I took the class with a couple of buddies, one of which had previously taken the class and spoke highly of it. Regaling us with stories of simulations and shoot/no shoot scenarios. Exactly the kind of stuff you'd expect in an advanced tactical handgun class.

Shortly after starting the class my buddy who had been before, turned to me and said that this was a different format then last time. He repeated this mantra throughout the entire class. We did cover some things of interest such as non-dominant malfunction clearances and movement under fire (the "Front Sight" method defies common sense!). But we never saw any scenarios and we never got any explanation from the instructors. Finally on the last day we overheard a conversation and finally understood that the large number of new attendees didn't allow them to fit all of people in the class through all of the scenarios so they just decided to drop them entirely.

So my interpretation of these sales drives are that you're going to get cramped classes and facilities and instruction that may not have been at the level it was previously.

My guess is that at some point he will gift the Nevada facility to the membership is some way or form.

Interesting, so what would you say the ATH curriculum consists of now?

I believe soon after that they changed the requirement to attend Advanced Handgun to DG from 4-D Handgun to limit students.

Yep. I agree that they changed it to decrease student load, rather than making more classes.

They also require you to DG the Handgun course to attend Advanced Shotgun now. I couldn't schedule the advanced shotgun in time to be grandfathered in, so now I have to wait until I can DG the handgun.

I was pretty upset last time I went there.
I scored well enough in the shooting portion to barely get DG, but an angry student who thought he was God's gift to shooting dinged me 3 points on a type 1 malfunction because he said my finger wasn't straight enough on the tap-rack-flip. Couldn't get the instructor to overrule because he didn't see it and had to go with the students word.

I think the student evaluators are a bad idea because some people are just A-Holes.

I will be going back in October, so hopefully it will happen then.

Did you miss the part about "those who fully participate...". There's nothing that says 'participation' won't cost $200,000. Of course nothing says that it won't be free either...

I would like to purchase two Diamond memberships, preferably with Alaska option (not required), as soon as possible. I agree that their most recent marketing is sketchy, but at the current prices it's a small gamble.

I had an agreement lined up with another member, but he backed out, so now I'm back to square one. If someone can help me get two memberships asap I'd be very grateful. Please feel free to call me directly at 509-five-nine-one-7466 or email me at cbpeck@gmail.com

                        Thanks so much,

I too was disappointed with the "new" ATHG cirriculum. They took out some of the best exercises ie: Shooting from unusual positions, vehicle defense.
It's now just a primer for CHGMaster prep class. The ambidextious stuff is good to know and we got 1 simulator run (during which my dominate arm was deemed unusable).
Worth while? Yes. All it was or could be no. Perhaps it's the price we pay for such a successful/popular facility.
Personally I do not mind the DG requirement for advanced classes, the test is easier than the first time I DG'd it in 1998 oh yes....much easier. All the disciplines are. However, handgun DG to advance in Shotgun? WTF? over. Shotgun DG I'd understand to get to the advanced courses, but not handgun. Really?
Anyways...I'm waiting for my bonus memberships too.

BTW all, don't forget you can get move and shoot practice on a regular basis by participating in IDPA/3-gun, etc. around town. Good practice for skill building.
