Caught the competition bug... Hardware & FUNdamental concerns.

I'll start by explaining that in my area we have a monthly meet shoot and eat as described here:

This weekend before we had our "competition", I was lucky enough to shoot another member's gen 4 glock 22.

Anyway, that thing was a tack driver! So just after that the competition begins. I'm one of the first shooters and I brought my Ruger KP-944 .40S&W to compete with as other than my .22's, I'm most accurate with this gun. The competition format was 5 yard line, 5 shots one handed strong hand and again weak hand. Then 15 yards two handed, 5 shots strong and 5 weak. Then the back stop which is 25-30 yards same format as 15 yard distance.

I'll post a pic of my target when I get photobucket working...

I ended up scoring 254/300 and taking 1st place.

I know I could have shot that comp better with the Glock...

If I switch from shooting my Ruger p-series pistols' and sp-101's da/santo glock's trigger system do I risk losing the trigger controls I've been learning?

I've shot a 5-7 glocks before and none ever impressed me this much... I've shot gen II's and III's this was my first gen IV as well as first in .40 S&W which is my pet caliber.

    So my questions are these:

Did the range put glock-aid in my water?

What production guns do you guys compete with?

Did glock put magic in the gen IV series?

Did glock put magic in the .40 caliber guns?

I'd rather have a Glock 35, are there any out of the box guns that will give me the accuracy and reliability the glock will?

I trust my life with my Ruger p-94's strong hand or weak hand... I need this confidence in my comp gun.

I've been working on my fundamentals and a slight change in my grip has significantly tightened my groupings, this new grip has been a major factor for me.

So what kind of competition is this? It sounds like a kinda of modified Bianchi Cup. Is it par time? What kind of targets? Whats the scoring system? Vicker's round count? What are the gun divisions? Are you under the clock from the holster, or low ready like GSSF?

All competition matches have rules, even local club charity matches, and if they are a Nationally sanctioned organization, like USPSA/IDPA/Steel Challenge, they have lots and lots of rules.

G35 is plenty accurate for what you're trying to do. Sounds like a NRA basic pistol match. They're okay, but rest assured...there are MUCH better pistols. Of course I'm biased.

I'm extremely happy with my Glock 17 for production. I don't have a Glock 34/35 and just keep telling myself that the longer sight radius doesn't matter that much (given the distances we normally shoot) once you put on a set of your preferred aftermarket sights. I've tried a bunch and the only other gun I'd really like to use in Production is an M&P.

Really, would that be an STI? Just saying, everyone knows Glocks are just hammers... But really good hammers.

It's really an informal competition to get us out of our comfort zones. It often seems that we put more thought into where we will be dining after than the shooting portion.

I shot a full sized Ruger P-94 in .40 and took first, third used a compact glock 30 in .45 acp. So it was a run what you bring kinda deal...

My Ruger is probably as accurate as this level of competition requires me to have. I'd like to know that my hardware is as accurate as it can be so I can concentrate on my fundamentals to improve. I'm sure the glock would be an improvement but I'm sure there are other guns that will improve beyond that.

If I switch to a glock trigger system primarily, am I going to lose the ability I've worked for in a da/sa pistol?

Can you change the sights and stay production class?

Man I wish I could afford a STI, I guess I could if I stopped buying guns and ammo for a year or two... I never thought about Glocks as hammers, I like my hammers made out wood and steel!

Are there any other guns I should try? I'd love a racegun maybe a 1911? I think that glock was the most accurate I've shot yet.

Yes, as long as they are post and notch, both are allowed in USPSA and IDPA.

No, Glock did. If you like their ergos, they are fantastic guns.

Not sure about magic, but the changeable back strap is a much-needed improvement.

I don't think their .40 guns are superior to anything else in their product line. Personally, I prefer their 9mm guns.

M&P and XD. Glock is probably the absolute king of reliability. But unless you are planning to conduct combat operations in Afghanistan or Antarctica, the M&P and XD will offer equal reliability.

Put 1,000 rounds through it. You'll be confidant after that.

I have been running Glocks since 1992, and pretty much Glocks rule USPSA Production, although there a few XD's, S&W MP's, Sigs, and Berettas, not many, but a few.

Yup. Even in the Glock sponsored GSSF matches they allow you to put on any aftermarket post and notch sights. Even they know their stock sights suck.

Ha! But your open guns are built on STI frames, I knew it.....

                            Tin,

Shoot what you have and continue to enjoy the sport. Isn't Norco part of the Inland Empire? (im in NorCal) If so you have one of the best USPSA programs in the country that i visit as often as I can.

Highlander is a regular there and I must say that group of competitors including some of the worlds best are really friendly and helpful.

Give it a try, lookup Jojo, Dennis, and Highlander.....they will take care of you...

Norco is a 20 min drive from my house. I take it your talking about raahuges(sic)? I've been meaning to make it down there and check out the facility.

I think I will stick with what I have and restock my ammo cache as lately I've been shooting more than I've been restocking.
