Yes. I think it will put you in the SSP class.
    Where are you located?
You can find all the IDPA rules on their website. http://www.idpa.com/

    Official IDPA rulebook: http://www.idpa.com/Documents/IDPARuleBook2005.pdf

If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of payments.

Actually it will put you into Enhanced Service Pistol (ESP) as the XD is considered single action by IDPA. Dont worry about your class, get a holster, two mag pouches and 3 magazines and give it a try. Prado has IDPA once a month and it is fairly close for you. There may be closer matches as well. Good luck and have fun.

Your two closest places for IDPA matches is either Prado in Chino Hills or ISI at Piru.

Yes all XDs are ESP. It is just a class we put you in so it is kind of fair. You should not be shooting against revolver shooters as they have to reload after six rounds. So they go to SSR or ESR and you go to ESP.

This won't matter until later on. Just go shoot it and have fun. You will like it.

Don't worry about the rules so much, there is way more to shooting a competition than that. Show up to your nearest IDPA match, and tell them you are brand new, and interested. They will squad you will experienced shooters who will guide you thru it.

Superman21.....go to the IDPA website it will explain all the classes and rules of the game, then go to a match and allow others in your squad help gulde you. If you're going to play a game you should be aware of the rules to avoid akward fau pas on the range.
Know range commands and common phrases used. All will give you helpful hints.

Yes you can, but I would recommend disabling the retention device. You do not want retention for competition. Personally I have been running a straight drop old style solid laminate Blade Tech holster for more than 15 years. I would also recommend the Wilderness Tactical Instructor belt, Blade Tech single mag pouches, (you can only wear 2 in IDPA) and Peltor Tac 6 electric ears ($55 at Amazon, use the calguns link).

I posted this in another thread, but read about how IDPA came to be, It was invented by Bill Wilson (one of the greatest IPSC shooters on the planet) and a few of his shooting buddies who wanted to stay old school single stack. Now USPSA Production and Single stack is almost IDPA SSP and IDPA CDP.

I would use what you have first, and then figure out if you want to continue in IDPA, if so then start investing in better gear. JMO.
