Holster at the Range - CAS Practice/Training

I just finished up the last touches on my Ranger style gun belt and my 2 holsters for my Cowboy Action Shooting gun leather. Question is, are there any ranges in the San Fernando Valley area that will let me wear my belt/holsters on the range so I can practice?

I have never heard of public ranges that allow loaded guns in holsters.
Best bet is to join a private range or just go shoot matches.
They let you put a loaded gun in a holster at the matches.

I think they are worried about this procedure:

1. pull trigger
2. draw gun

or maybe this one:

1. draw gun
2. pull trigger
3. aim

Howdy DJDace,

Finding a range to do live fire practice can be a challenging. The suggestions made already are spot on. Go to the Cowboy Action shoots and talk to the shooters. Even if you don't have all the gear arrangements can be made to loan guns, belts, etc.

Dry fire practice can provide tremendous improvement without ever firing a shot. Check out the following web sites & watch some of the videos. One link is Steve Andersons site. Steve is a USPSA shooter and uses a race gun, but don't let that stop you from applying the same concepts to your single action revolver. Grip, stance, sight picture and trigger control are the same regardless of the firearm type. The other link is Doc Shapiro's site. He has some photos, videos and suggestions listed

Go to the shoots, shoots can be good practice. But don't overlook the value of dryfiring.

Liability - can you imagine 10 - 15 untrained civilians on the firing line trying to be Quick Draw McDraw

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll order up a grip of snap-caps this week for my SAA's and work on practice drawing at home.

Like my daddy used to say - "It's sink or swim boy!" - looks like I just need to hit up some matches and shoot till I don't suck at it!

That really IS the best way to do it.
You will get lots of tips and advice from people watching you (whether you want it or not!).
