Keltec SU-16CA in training class?

Anyone ever try a tactical course with the Keltec SU-16CA? I don't have one, but I wonder if anyone has ever tried it out in a tactical training setting?

Took a course in December and the guy with the keltec kept having the sights (first front then rear) kept falling off.

what class was it? If I did get a Kel-Tec I'd put a red dot on it.

I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and convert to featureless.

I've run my SU-16CA through several courses, some of them pretty hard-charging with high round counts. I've never had a single malfunction. YMMV of course.

I saw a KelTec in a training course once. He was on the otherside of the line and I wasn't able to see what was going wrong. But he seemed to always have some issue. I have one in my safe and if I put in the time I know I can get it to run. But I have to change the sights and zip tie the handgaurd because it pops open sometimes. Not sure if I will run into issues with magazines but that is also something I have to work through. All in all if you plan to never ever buy a AR15 in your entire life then the SU16 is probably a decent buy. I wouldn't recommend it to a friend though.

Which classes and how were they?

^^^ Most notably Tactical Response Fighting Rifle. It's not a slow-moving course, and you will find out if you or your rifle has an issue. An AK47, Sig556 and an AR-15 all went down hard during two days of training. It just goes to show you: YMMV.

I would suggest there's variance between the SU-16 models. I was practicing the Navy's practical weapon course with my SU-16A and I did have a problem with my front sight falling off after the barrel got hot (300-400 rds in). I was able to adjust the pins and shift the front blade so the rifle still shoots straight on the range though. I imagine the SU-16CA with the fixed front sight above the piston instead of at the end of the barrel may be more durable.

The latest evolution of the SU-16CA model is GTG.

-Under 7 Ibs. with 1-4x scope and 30rd preban mag
-Under 5 Ibs. unloaded

I was quite surprised I managed to get a 1.5" 4-shot group at 100 yards with stock iron sights the first range trip with the CA model many years ago. After a few thousand rounds of using it at tactical matches, the only thing I noticed is you need to clean the gas tube assembly if using Russian ammo after each session.

I bought it used round count unknown. I treat all my semi-auto weapons to a 200 round break in period, so I still shot that off at the first range trip. I did not have any FTF or FTE, I was running Pmags with Federal surplus 5.56. Other than the front sight slipping I'm satisfied with the rifle.
