Richmond 1/22/12 Classifier

I see it's on the Hot Shot's schedule. I tried the search and I can't seem to find the thread. Any more details? How many can we run? 9:30 sign up or first shot?

Usually, 1st division $15, subsequent divisions $10, shoot till you get the score you want.. just don't classify yourself over your skill level.. If it were me, I'd shoot them all once, at your level, and not shoot over and over till you got the highest one.. otherwise you will grand bag yourself.. ie, make it more difficult to advance. I'd show up at 9a..

Is this an IPSC classifier? I'm new/unregistered but I've read the links at Richmond Hotshots. Interested in coming out, just not sure I have the minimum equipment.

I'll brave a downpour to shoot a match any day, but being a classifier in the rain, it may keep me at home. Hoping for decent weather.

I'm pretty sure you have to either have a USPSA card with a classification or attend their holster safety class or one accepted by them (TASC) before you can shoot.

I don't think there are any exceptions but I could be wrong.

My advice: there are no safety classes between now and the special classifier, but do the holster class ASAP. I learned about local IPSC over a year ago and wish I had started then.

Hint: Richmond Hotshots usually has a waiting list; TASC (Chabot) usually has openings.

Hmm OK. I took their Safe Multigunner class. Not sure if that will satisfy the requirement?

You can shoot it. Good experience too. The stages will be short and very little movement. Are you a USPSA member? If not look into joining.
For the classifier you will need, bare min. equipment. pistol, approved holster, one mag pouch should do it. 4 mags, what am I forgetting??

Unless your guns are made of some mystery material that melts when it gets wet...rain is no excuse (if you can get to the range).

I feel the same way Al. Shooting a regular match in the rain is no problem, but a classifier match is another story. In a regular match, I'm competing on a level field with the other shooters there in the rain that day. In a classifier match I'm competing with people around the country over a long period of time, and I can almost guarantee that the high hit factor was not shot in inclement conditions. It just doesn't seem like it would be a good assessment of my current skill level.

After shooting production exclusively for my first two years I was hoping to get initial classifications in SS and LTD just for fun, but it doesn't look favorable right now. I might still go if I'm bored enough.

Safe multi-gunner and safe competitor are based on the same material and are equal.. (Multi-gunner based on the safe competitor).. TASC, Yolo, USI, or a classification in USPSA, ICORE, IDPA, SASS, or proven competition (score results from a major match) will generally qualify you.

Eh. Rain is likely to keep me home on this one. I do love to shoot but six classifiers in the rain just seems ... all wet.
But you never know, my trigger finger might get all itchy Saturday night!
