Need help regarding classes in LA County

I am looking to get my father a couple of basic firearms courses for christmas. He has been shooting for a while, but could use a a good class that covers basic fundamentals for both pistol and rifle. He lives in Santa Clarita, but he's retired so I'm sure he wouldn't mind a drive. I would appreciate any suggestions that I could check out online since I live up north and won't be able to actually visit any of the locations. I appreciate the help.

For basic firearms training with reputable outfits holding frequent classes:

    FOG
    ITTS
    TAC-1
    TASC

The closest to Santa Clarita are ITTS and TAC-1.
Their drills are bloodless battles, and their battles bloody drills.

Look into Mossie tactics with Buck Mossie next year. He teaches the Vickers shooting method and is really a great guy. His classes take place at oak tree gun club which is literally next door to Santa Clarita.

Thanks guys, but I am looking for something even more basic. All of these classes require holster work and my dad doesn't have a holster for any of his pistols. Are there any non tactical like classes that just focus on safety and marksmanship, without the need of holsters? Sorry I have looked a bunch and haven't found anything so maybe there isn't, but I took a class a while back up here at Chabot that was great for new shooters and it didn't require a holster. So I was hoping to find something like that in LA for him.

Try Firing Line Indoor Shooting Ranges in Northridge or Burbank. They have very basic instruction with no holsters.

I recently took Defensive handgun I from ITTS (http://internationaltactical.com/) and it was great. The emphasis on safety is second to none and the instructors are all the real deal. All have been involved in actual gun fights and work or have worked SWAT. Uncle Scotty actually travels all over the world teaching the best of the best how to shoot and operate better with pistols, carbines, shotguns, and sniper rifles.

I feel like my fundamentals are much stronger now and it is the safest I have felt on a gun range probably ever. They watch people very closely.

Halfway through the second day--we didn't shoot at all the first day--every single person in the class was connecting with a steel target from 50 yards.

Stanton Lee is really terrific and local to you.

Anyone run classes on Sundays? I am looking for a basic handgun course for myself, and 3-4 coworkers and friends in the LA county area. Holster work is fine. Every other class is on a Saturday.

Based on your criteria for your dad, Look for:

                      NRA First Steps Pistol Orientation

                      or

                      NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course

You can use this tool to find based on your location.

Check out Civilian Arms Training. www.civilianarmstraining.com They have a basic beginner's handgun course. Starting 2012 they will be offering classes at A Place to Shoot in Santa Clarita.
