Glock 34 for matches

I'm thinking about getting a Glock 34 to use in matches. I would most likely, due to small hands, want to have the grip reduced and the finger bumps removed. I would like to know what that means in terms of classes and divisions for IDPA and GSSF. I've looked over the rule books...but I don't trust myself to fully understand the finer points.

I believe the grip changes would put you into esp for Idpa. Not sure about gssf. Nice choice in handguns, btw.

Small hands? get a Steyr M9 or M40

Just shoot the SW M&P 9 listed in your sig line. If you want to buy a new gun look to get a M&P Pro in 9mm thru a PPT from an exempt seller or using the single shot conversion thru a participating dealer.

Modifying the grip on a G34 takes you out of Production Division in USPSA and out of Stock Service Pistol in IDPA. and those two divisions are where you want to be with a stock gun. I have a G34 and a M&P. The M&P has a smaller grip with the small insert and the reach to the mag release button is shorter.

The G34 is the best all around competition setup to start with. IDPA SSP, GSSF, and USPSA Production. I would shoot several matches first, then decide about modifications.

I appreciate all the input and suggestions. My question wasn't really if I should modify the 34, but rather, if I do, what would that mean in regards to what class I could shoot in.

For a small handed person the M&P is the way to go IMHO.

Another option. G34 Gen 4 if you have the patience to search for a CA PPT. Else spend some extra $ using the single shot transfer method.

Grip reduction and finger groove removal would bump the G34 out of Production division in USPSA, and make it eligible for only Unlimited division in GSSF. You can shoot Limited or Limited-10 in USPSA with those modifications (albeit at minor power factor - a disadvantage with any hits outside the A zone).

While I'm not at all certain about the IDPA division rules, I believe that those modifications would make the G34 ineligible for SSP division, but legal for ESP division.

AbbyCat, I am quite certain that if you shoot several competition matches first, you will not be worried about taking material off the frame. There is way, way, way more going on than just your gun in competition.

Hmm, if you have small hands, you should try a CZ SP01 or a CZ 75 SA. They are a bit heavier but the ergo are nicer than the Glock.

Just remember that the SP-01 is illegal in IDPA unless you can shave off some its weight.
