    Sacramento Area Training?

Are there any training facilities or instructors in the greater Sac area? I am looking for some tactical and personal defense classes for myself and my wife (Intermediate to advanced and beginner) and I just dont have the money or time to travel to gunsite or any of the larger academy style schools.

Yeah, TFTT comes up for a week, twice a year usually, to teach classes at Sac Valley Shooting Center. TFTT is a good organization. Never done a firearm class with them but the 1-day folding knife seminar was well put together and I've heard good things about their gun curriculum. http://www.tftt.com/

John Farnam does a 2 day class once a year, usually in October up in South Lake Tahoe. John is an extremely worthwhile guy to train with, to the point where I'm tempted to say MANDATORY. His gun handling curriculum is very good, but its the mindset and tactics arena where he really steps away from the crowd. http://www.defense-training.com/

Given the price of a Certificate for a 4 day class for a first timer at Front Sight, it ends up being no more expensive to travel and train there than to do 4 days locally. Basically what you save on tuition, you spend on food, lodging, and travel. There's plenty of back and fourth reviews on FS's curriculum, but in the final analysis I think most would agree it falls into the "time well spent" category but not necessarily the "best use of your time" category. http://www.frontsight.com/

Seems like every other year or so Gabe Suarez gets nearby; sometimes Sac, sometimes Fresno, or Reno. I've never trained with Gabe but he's on my "to-do" list due to the reviews I've heard from people. http://suarezinternational.com/

AWT, run by Walt Marshall, does training in the bay area....Richmond and Susuin. Walt is a former Gunsite instructor, so he's got the resume to do a good class, but I've never heard a review. http://www.awt-co.com/home.htm

Yavapi Firearms Academy, Lous Awerbucks outfit, is extremely well reguarded, particularly for shotgun, does classes in the Bay Area once in a while. http://www.yfainc.com/

Those are the best suggestions I can think of.

If you're really committed to doing a local class, your best bet might be to find a range facility you can rent for a couple days, and work with one of the itinerant trainers like Farnam or Suarez to bring a class to the Sac Area. My understanding of the way this works is that if you can get a certain number of students your spot is free.

April 26-27 Tactical Response will be in Sac. I really wish they'd do their Medical classes out here.

Adding to the ones above, LMS Defense also hosts classes in that area. They just completed a 2-day pistol class this last weekend in Yuba City.

In the past, I have coordinated classes at Sac Valley from instructors like:

                    - Mike Voigt, Bennie Cooley and Matt Burkett

When I get back to CA next year (about August/September of '08) there will be hopefully regular classes from the likes of the above, as well as Max Michel, Travis Tomasie and the United States Shooting Academy's remote training team. Further, I'll be teaching trauma/tactical medical courses for the first responder, LE, military and PSD personnel interested in how to incorporate immediate action medical treatment and when to do that vs. applying/establishing fire superiority and the various degrees of care capable under given scenarios/levels of injury.

If interested, do not hesitate to contact me. I'll also post announcements in the near future when things are running along (and I become a forum sponsor).

Yes, we did. It went well I hear.

We have several courses coming in early 2008 to Yuba City.
