IDPA Area Coordinator????

Who is the new AC for IDPA here in California. Its says his name is Monte Gould.
For someone who is suppose to oversee this whole states IDPA matches and events you'ld think he would of shot atleast more thn 2 matches in the last 2 years. Thats all I can find. Who get to vote on this and or help decide. Does anyone have any input on this.

I don't know the guy (nor shoot IDPA), but it occurs to me that maybe he doesn't shoot in matches because he's too busy organizing them. Have you explored that possibility?

Two? I saw that he shot the 2010 State Match, but other than that, I can't find him in another sanctioned match in the state as far back as 2005. And I know he hasn't shot or worked the Nationals in recent years, since I've been to most of them since 2006.

He doesn't, as far as I know. I've been match director or assistant match director for three of the past five state championships. Between Richmond and Sacramento, we've put on seven sanctioned state or regional championships since 2005. Neither myself or the club leaders of Sac have ever heard of him, nor did he shoot any of these matches.

I have no problem with not knowing him. I'm more concerned about the potential message that HQ is sending by appointing someone who has not been actively promoting or participating in the sport in recent years.

In any case, if he has a plan for improving the sport within the state, then I'll support him.

More than anything else, I would like to see him drive clubs to put on at least two sanctioned matches a year. The state is big enough to support at least two, and currently you have to drive to Arizona, Washington, or Idaho if you want to shoot in more than one per year. That's ridiculous given our population and size.

Kern IDPA dissolved over a year ago due to lack of management. Therefore Bakersfield IDPA was created where the 2010 IDPA State Championship was held.

I couldn't agree more with Gryff that California should have at least 2 sanctioned matches. It's really pathetic that we have to leave the state to shoot more than one sanctioned match. Since I know nothing about the new AC (looks like I'm not the only one) I can't comment on his qualifications, but hopefully adding a second sanctioned match is on his agenda.

Monte Gould is based out of central California and is involved in a lot of activities including IDPA. He is/was involved with the Taft/Teharhapi groups as well as some activities in Europe I believe. He is also certified as a SOI. I am not aware of him being a prolific IDPA competitor but has some competition based background.

What his plans are for California based IDPA remains to be seen, but appointing someone to take over is way over do ...

He has come out to Taft and shot a few local matches. He also shot with some of his guys in the Bakersfield State Match.

He was absent for the Kern IDPA most of the time. That is one if the reasons of the forming of Taft IDPA and Bakersfield IDPA.

Short bio;
Retired Peace officer
22 years SWAT
20 year military veteran with combat service (reserve and active duty)
SOI and actively training SOs
Set up, organized and sponsored several clubs (posted on website)
IDPA member shooting matches locally with regularity at Chapter #1 SERT.
I participated in the California state match 2010.
Occasionally I shoot at other clubs.

I want your and everyones input on how to improve and make our sport better. We go forward together and get people involved. I feel my job here is to help, support and make IDPA better and expand. I have much to learn and improve on within my limitations. I want more and better events and sanctioned matches. I want California to lead the way. Shooting, personal defense of all good citizens (protection of good folks) and firearms are my passions and the fundementals are the basis of our sport. New shooters are the life blood and what will secure our freedoms in the future. This post for me is temporary (as all of us are, life is short) and an opportunity to help. As well I look forward to understanding everyones position, organization and concerns. Monte came out to SLOSA yesterday and shot our monthly IDPA match. He told me he was going to try to shoot local matches throughout the state as much as he can. He is likely going to appoint a few assistant area coordinators to help him.
