I am sitting here wishing for a time machine to take me away from work and back to last Thursday. Until that happens, I will tell you guys about my time at Front Sight. I took the four day practical rifle class starting on 9/7/07.
1. Front Sight is HOT, do not kid yourself. Drink a lot of water before, during, and after training. If you decide to drink a few brews with boys at night, drink a crap load of water before hitting the hay. Laughing at the wrong time is a sign of dehydration. If you find some stupid joke extremely funny, and can't stop laughing, you NEED water now. Don't ask me how I know this.
2. Front Sight is a lot of fun. The first day and the first half of the second day were kinda slow, a lot drilling in how they want things done. The second two days rocked. Shooting a rifle at night on steel targets is about as much fun you can have with your clothes on.
3. The instructors are great. Very professional and have outstanding teaching skills. They would give you a tip and track you down the next day to see how that one little bit of info worked out for you. Doesn't sound like much, but with 30 people in a class, remembering who you told what, impressed me.
4. The facility is top notch. The range was in nicer than any I had been to before. The simulators where you shot at targets in a small valley was loads of fun. Lesson learned, after running up a hill, it is very hard to go prone and hit a target 200 yards away with no magnification. I was breathing so hard, I almost blew off the hat of the instructor with me. In the pistol class the live fire kill houses are also top notch. Ok, ok, ok, ok, they still only have porta potties there, but that was the only complaint. They are still working on all of the sewage/fresh water permits.
5. I would recommend Front Sight to anyone that wants fairly rigorous training. Most of the days were 11 hours long, the night shoot day was about a thirteen hour day.
6. Chicks in airports dig guys with long gun cases. Once again, don't ask me how I know that.
7. The HK 416 is one sweet rifle. A couple of guys in the class had them, they were LEO of course. Watching both of them shoot full auto in the dark was awesome. Thank god it was really dark out there, I would of had a hard time hiding my chubby. A ten inch barrel doubles would double nicely as a flash bang in a small room. The flash coming out the front will give the tango one hell of a sunburn if you miss.
8. Everyone in the class was very friendly. Learned a lot of good stuff in conversation with different students in the class. Especially the friendly LEO's, and all of them were.
9. It was so nice to restore my ar to it's intended configuration. Don't worry, I re-fixed the mag before flying back. *Sniff*
10. They definitely didn't do any sort of hard selling on memberships. They only had one twenty minute, maybe half hour discussion about them. They asked if anyone was interested in a membership to listen, and if you weren't, just talk quietly amongst yourselves.
My buddy will be posting some pics of us later on this thread. He had the nice camera, so we will have to wait on him to get off work tonight. If anyone has specific questions shoot me a PM, I will be more than happy to answer them.
