Anyone use a glock for IPSC?

I've never done IPSC, but it looks like fun. Rumor has it 1911s rule the roost.

Does anybody here compete in IPSC with a glock? Does anybody here use a .45 caliber glock, like a 21 or 21SF?

From the outside, it looks like a 21 or 21SF would be a great IPSC gun. Anybody have any experience to share?

The usefulness of a GLOCK depends on the division you're shooting and if you're shooting IPSC or (the slightly different) USPSA.

IPSC
G17 would make an excellent choice in Production, since there's no 10-round limit and you have to start with hammer down on DA/SA guns. Also, no "bonus" for shooting major, so 9x19 is "big" enough
G35 would be a decent choice in Standard, where you get a bonus for major, but you would compete against $3000 tuned 1911s. However, one of my old shooting buddies came 5th in the World Shoot -99 in Standard, with a G35, so it can be done.

USPSA
G34 would make an excellent choice in Production.
G35 would be a decent choice in Limited and L-10, where you get a bonus for major, but in both divisions you would still compete against $3000 tuned 1911s.

Other GLOCKS would certainly work, but the best choices would probably be the ones listed above.

I used to shoot a G17 in IPSC, but for USPSA I switched to a G34.

I went to an IPSC match not too long ago to watch and saw 3 or 4 glocks compete....They were the only guns that didnt have a failure.....The 1911's were going down left and right lol

I occasionally shoot IPSC with a Glock 21 and "full power" loads.

I am not highly competitive, but I still have a great time and beat a lot of other competitors whether they are stock, limited, or unlimited. I still have a great time without joining the equipment race.

If you shoot in the stock L10 division the G21 doesn't give anything up to any other gun. Compared to the unlimited guys running around with their optics, compensators, and 27 round .38 super magazines, and 1# trigger pulls, yeah it is a little different, but it just makes it that much more fun when you beat them and then you eat a little humble pie when a revolver shooter hoses you!

There may be a lot to learn before you get in the race to "rule the roost" so take what you have, make sure you have enough spare magazines, enough ammo, a proper belt and holster and get to it.

I prefer to have fun rather than trying to compete. Glock works just great. I've seen 1911s, Glocks and CZs.

Start with basic quipment and start getting new ones as needed.

Glocks are very popular in the Production class which limits modification to the gun (trigger work, sights, repacement barrels if you want) but no mag wells, weights, or external modifications. You must use a "practical" holster (no race holsters) so a Blade-tech, Fobus, etc. work fine, 10 rounds max in the mags and the power factor is "minor" so factory 9mm gets it done. I've had lots of fun with a G34 shooting Blazer and G35 shooting 135 grain bullets.

If you have a Glock, a holster, 5 mags and a way to carry them come out and shoot.

Just go out and play with whatever you have; a G21 is fine.

Being "Competitive" is about 95% skill and 5% equipment. The cost of competitive equipment is insignificant compared to the cost of developing competitive skill.

I use a Glock 35 in Limited and Limited 10.
It has had grip reduction. Reliable, easy to clean.
Just bring what you have and have some fun shooting.

I do with a G17.

For your first time just bring a gun you feel competent with. Glocks are great platforms in general. Low bore axis, really short reset, and reliable so it'll be a great gun to use.

I use a G35 for USPSA. Shoot 2-3 club matches a month. If you are going to buy a Glock for USPSA, I recommend the G35 especially if you reload. It can be loaded to minor for Production and can be loaded to major for L-10 and Limited. L-10 and Limited allow more mods to the gun.

I run a 22 in production (with light handloads).

A 21 or 21SF will work great in Limited 10, with factory ammo or slightly lighter reloads.

You will most likely want to do something about the trigger. At the very least, drop in a 3.5lbs connector, and do the "25 cent trigger job", aka polishing some of the metal of the trigger components.

If I were going to do it all again, I'd probably pick up a G35, extra mags, pouches etc and spend the rest of the money on ammo. But then I shoot 5 out of 6 divisions so I'd probably eventually get something else too The one Glock 35 I had needed to be sold to pick up something else. It's ok,I can visit it any time since I sold it to a friend. He really likes it. I've beaten a fair # of Glock/1911/name different gun here shooters with my Revolver
