    Competiton on weekdays...

I'm trying to gather information for a fundraiser but the range I got a hold of is willing to help but their willing to help on tue weekdays only. I know most are held nights or weekends but wanted to see if any of you guys would show up to a competition on a weekday?

I know most people work but that is the only option I have. Would you show up if there were prize? What type of things would you look for to get a day off to shoot a competition? Top prize for a pistol? Rifle? Gears? Etc etc.

    Thanks everyone.

I'd go if it was local and didn't keep me out all day. If I could take some time out from work (couple of hours) and get back them I'd probably be all over it.

Might help if you say what area you're in, what range you were talking with, time frame.

I'm in Fresno area, don't want to mention the range until I can confirm with them first. But hours would be about 3 hours depending on how many people show. They have two bays but each bay can setup 2 course so total of 4 stages. Would like to run more stages but it'll take more time and more $ to setup. Also like ROTCS mention, since it's a weekday we didn't want to keep people there all day if they have to go else where.

To be honest, and I mean no offense, this are my initial impressions:

          1) You sound like you're not very familiar with running a match. This has problems everywhere from organization to poorly designed stages to uneven application/enforcement of rules. What kind of training do the RO's or "referrees" have?

          2) Realistically, the time, gas money, and "work leave" excuse sort of kill it as there are only going to be 4 stages.

          3) you're setting it up on Tuesday- daytime. That's going to really limit who can come out and participate. ie. If my buddies can't get the time off, I'm a lot less likely to go by myself.

At our local, club level matches, we would have about 20-40 shooters during the thursday night shoots, so depending on how much you charge, say @$20 dollar entry fee, you could end up with $400-$800 of revenue. Now consider doing this during a weekday? Realistically, how many people would you expect to show?

Although it's a fundraiser, when money/prizes are involved, I've met competitors who can get pretty aggressive (ie ugly) about winning. Just be sure of the format, be organized and execute the rules consistently and it should be fine. If you've never done this sort of thing, please don't take this wrong, I would reconsider finding a better way to raise money. I've shot with a club that had literally years and years of running matches, but when they tried to change format and location, it was a TOTAL FIASCO. It was like they had never done it before. It left such a bad impression on me that I've never participated with them since.

Good luck though. I hope it turns out well, whatever it is you decide on.

Thanks, on running the show it wouldn't be me. I have only attended matches but never ran or done the "behind the scene" parts so that Im leaving it up to the president of the local club to run since they've ran it for decades.

The main purpose was to ask if people would show up on weekdays for such match so I can decide if I want to hold a match at the range or find another willing to host one on weekends or nights. I know weekends and nights are most popular but for what kind of prize would one spend a day off to shoot on a weekday?

I appreciate your advice though as I understand where your coming from.

I would be interested on a Tuesday in Fresno as I am in town every other week.
