Looking for competitions in L.A. Area

I have been trying to find some sort of competitions I can compete in, or at least a site that would have info about it. I live in Long Beach, and my local pistol range doesn't have anything to mention. I wouldn't mind driving upwards of an hour or so, but I can't seem to find good info on matches and what kind of shooting is taking place. No Cal seems to have a lot of good stuff.

I am mostly interested in silhouette with a pistol. I shoot my Ruger MkIII a lot and I would like to compete with it. I also have a .45 and some military grade bolt actions I could compete with, but I am most interested in .22 pistol matches. If not silhouette, then maybe something else but I love the ping sound when you hit the target and then it falling over.

    Thanks for the info,
    Bill

On-Target in Laguna Niguel holds action pistol competitions every first and second Wednesday of the month. It costs $15, but I do believe you need a centerfire pistol. You could ask if they allow rimfire for the competition, and they might let you since they break up the scores into different divisions anyways. All you need is a strong side OWB holster, and some mag pouches and you're set.

I don't know of any .22 silhouette matches but Norco SSA steel may be a good fit for you. You can find info about it by searching this forum or the Shoots/Meets forum.

Steel Challenge at Piru, perfect for .22 rimfire pistol.

You don't need a holster, everything is from the low ready with a .22. Great place to start.

LUHT at Raahagues in Norco has a .22 division for their Steel Challenge matches.

Silverado Sportsman at Prado in Chino runs a bullseye match on the 4th Sunday of the month. Or at least use to, haven't been there for a while.

Orange County Indoor Shooting Range in Brea has a .22 division for their 'tactical Tuesdays'

You may also try some of 'private' clubs and other ranges to see if they have anything. West End Gun club, Angeles, Burro Canyon, Corona Sportsman, Burbank Rifle and Revolver Club, etc. may have a discipline you are interested in. Most of the 'private' ranges will allow non-members to shoot in competition or at least for a couple of matches before asking you to join.

You don't need to be a member of private ranges to shoot sanctioned matches like IDPA/USPSA/Steel Challenge, or even local matches. If you do join members normally shoot for a lower match fee.

norco also has steel madness (which is different from the steel challange) which is tons of fun.

that's the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month.

they also have a steel challenge match but that one the 2nd Sunday of every other month.

come down to norco on any Saturday and look for hawk, he can give you the the info an all the different match options.
