    X3 Multi Gun April 17th

O.k., It looks like the rain has finally gone away and we are going to have a match. It looks to be in the high 70's and low 80's,

And boy am I ready for it.

The stages are attached at the bottom of this thread and also on our website.

You will need min of 10 Buck and min of 10 slugs. I recommend you bring a few more and start keeping them in your bag. I plan on using both on a regular basis.

We have purchased 4 new targets that I am excited about putting into the match (2 Flippers, 1 Spinner and one disappearing target.)

We are also introducing a "California 10 round" category for all of the new shooters that don't have the luxury of owning hi-cap weapons. So put the word out to all of the new shooters.

Please get there early and sign up by 8:30 I would like to get started on time.

missed you at pala last week sammy. i hope you dont put that spinner on the pistol stage. jeff did that to us at pala and it was a mother to anyone shooting minor or cal legal. keep that sucker on the shotty so we have to select load buck for it.

Then dont shoot minor or get some hotter minor ammo
      With Oden on our side.

Or double tap. Top, bottom, top, bottom, repeat (or vice versa).

I vote for keeping it. Keep it challenging.

I was using 147 grain powder puff loads and with double taps I was able to get it to spin.

oh i spun it in 10 shots with my 9. dont trip on that. we'll see who cleared that stage faster when jeff posts the scores.

and as for not shooting minor, when i started i was shooting 45 and everyone on here told me to shoot 9mm when i posted a thread asking what i should shoot. so hit up phong and everyone who said to go 9mm about that one. i can find the thread if you want me to.

but actually im picking up a brand new hk usp 45 expert in about 45min. so maybe you'll see me shooting that next match. its all to the good.

9mm is alot cheaper though, and i dont have to spend time reloading 45, its so cheap i can buy in bulk.

wow sammy those stages were great. very challenging but very fun. i was doing great (by my standards at least) until i got to our last stage, stage 1. those fore extinguishers.do not go down on a single buck hit running improved cylinder. looks like i gotta pick up a tighter choke if youre gonna hit us with those from now on. i ran out of buck and i brought what i thought was too much. oh well. prolly killed my overall score.but i was glad i felt like i improved in the other stages from last time.

cant wait to see the scores.

We had some of the better shooters in our squad and some of them had to chase the buckshot cylinder targets with several shots to get them to fall. Again it was a matter of choke selection as they were running IC and Cylinder. They eventually got them, just had to get lucky with enough pellets to get it to drop. I ran a mod choke and didn't have an issue. I liked the target but for some compeitors who did not have barrels cut for choke tubes this might be an issue. Bringing that target in another couple of yards might help.

At the Shotgun world cup in Kentucky they had the ipsc buckshot targets IPSC A4/A Target

              http://www.panamericanshotgun.org/RulesShotgun.pdf pages 44 and 55 (on the pdf it's 50 and 51).

It's just a 8.5" x 11" paper targets with a center A zone rectangle and an outer C zone edge. This is a great target for buckshot at extended ranges (up to 50 yards). The way they had the targets set up is to use a plywood backer several times bigger than the target with two sticks on the outer edges holding up the backer. The targets we held on with spray glue adhesive. You needed one A or two C hits to neutralize.

After a shooter takes his run and the stage is being reset you just spray the backer and slap on another target. Reset is super fast an everyone has a new target to shoot. You can just photocopy a bunch of targets and leave them next to the backer on the ground in a box along with a can of spray adhesive. The backer was several times wider than the target so buchshot did not hit the sticks holding the backer when people engaged the target and blow the backer and target down.

This worked a lot better than say the buckshot stage at superstition mountain 3 gun with the uspsa humanoid targets. Using those targets you had to replace every other shooter at a cost of .50 cents per target, expensive and time consuming.

I'd like to see maybe 8 buckshot targets per match. Use the double swinger and red cylinders for close and medium range targets (10 - 15 yards) the use the ipsc A4/A (8x11 sheet) for long range buck targets at 20+ yards.

It was interesting as people who did not know their patterns and did not know their holds for long buck shots got crushed on the A4/A. They hit high or low but most had enough pattern to have a chance of getting a pellet in the A or two on the C. I think this would be more doable for people with shotguns without interchangable chokes. With those cylinders at distance you would probably need 3-4 pellets to drop.

http://vimeo.com/13997635 match footage from shotgun world cup buckshot stage at 2:52 and 3:55. You can see some of the shots were far but it was doable if you knew your holds.

A 9 rocks for time-plus scoring, unless there are spinners around

                      im confused.

is it the first set of scores or the second set of scores? im placed differently on each for some reason.

screwed myself on stage one regardless. doh!!

The first set of scores is combined all divisions. The second group of scores is by division.

I won the buckshot stage. Again something to be said about mod choke and knowing your patterns.

Have not been shooting as much 3 gun as I used to. It seems my rifle is the weakest part of my game now. Something to work on before ironman.

yeah i think the chokes i ordered are going to be a good investment. that stage one ruined me.

i still did alot better than my first time. last time i was 30/35, this time im 16/26.

interesting that theres a 50 point gap between the amateurs and the more experienced shooters. at least i was the best of the worst that day. ha ha.

even if i did do well on stage one i dont think i woulda made up 50 points to catch frido.

I'm also not sure about stage 3. I don't remember Ralph crushing us as badly as he did. I seem to remember Jack having the best run on that stage for our squad.
