High cap magazines are not illegal to own in California.
However, for Competition, you are restricted to 10 round magazines for USPSA Production and IDPA SSP/ESP Divisions.

      richieneal, yes, yes, and yes...

You would be in Limited (hi cap plus 140mm extension) or Open (hi cap plus 170mm extension) Division for USPSA, and pretty much the same for the Steel Challenge.

Come on out. Check http://uspsa.com/ and http://idpa.com/ and http://steelchallenge.com/ for club listings near you.

The CZ 75 Tactical Sport will not qualify for USPSA Production or SS divisions so you will be forced to run that gun in USPSA Limited against other competitors running HiCap mags.

You would need to have HiCap mags to be competitive in USPSA Limited. If you are active CA LEO you should be able to purchase them with dept. authorization and/or legally posses them. Because this gun was not made before the ban on HiCaps went into effect way back when and you could not have purchased them before the ban, grandfathering them in due to pre-ban ownership in CA won't work.

In many ways you would be better off with a Glock 34 and a hunk of 10 round mags so you are legal AND competitive in USPSA Production division.

There are gray area ways to get HiCaps, but no black and white ways to legally own them that I am aware of other than through active LEO purchase/posession or grandfathering in (not applicable in your guns case).

        Hope this helps

          You can do limited-10 also.

Possession and use of large capacity magazines are not illegal.

Keep in mind that using them in competition will not exempt you from the CA large capacity magazine laws. In other words, if you get caught "manufacturing" large capacity magazines, saying that you are using them for competition will not get you a hall pass.

                Carry on.

I beg to differ on the legality of posessing hi-caps for the specific firearm the OP has.

The firearm in question was not introduced until 2005. If you have hi-caps for that firearm that were NOT purchased or brought into CA before 2000 then those magazines are illegally acquired and therefore you cannot legally posses them in CA.

In other words, it is not illegal to posses hi-caps that were imported or owned prior to the ban, but it IS illegal to posses hi-caps that were imported, bought or assembled AFTER that date.

Unless otherwise the mag for the firearm fits an older version of a CZ variant. Say you have a firearm that was available 2005, BUT you have/had a CZ gun that has hi-cap and owned prior to ban and fits the new gun. I personally think you should be okay. "fits" mean you dont have to tinker your mag to fit the new gun, that maybe manufacturing?
