This has got to be a typo:

Any semiautomatic handgun of .380 caliber or larger and any revolver of .38 special or larger is acceptable in the course.

I can't believe they won't let you shoot 9mm there, please tell me someone has shot a 9mm in the defensive handgun class there. That's got to be a typo...

um.. 9mm is ".380 or larger"... the .380 is either 17 or 18 mm long, the 9mm is 19 mm long.. operates at a higher pressure and generally is loaded with a heavier bullet.

A few things should be noted:

You can take the course with just about anything reliable. You just cannot get a "graduate" or "distinguished graduate" certificate with anything smaller than a .380 or .38sp.

"Smaller" is a somewhat relative term. People use FN5.7 pistols all the time, and these are "good to go"

Well, yes, because a 9mm is .35 caliber and I was looking at caliber not realizing that 380 was actually .35 caliber (I don't obviously know anything about the round - but I do now).

Please excuse my snippy'ness, I thought you were just messing with us.

They are speaking relative to power rather than bullet diameter. The .380 being the lowest powered round for autos, and 38 special being the lowest powered for revolvers.

No problem, could have looked that up myself but only got as far as converting 9mm to .355 inches. I should know better, since I have a 357mag and I knew the diameter of a 38 special was .35. It made me wiki the 380 ACP round and I learned something so all is not lost.

Speaking of Frontsight and 9mm; has anyone done the course with WOLF 115grn ammo? I got a great deal on a few cases of it and my Sigs just eat them up.

I saw steel cases on the range when I was there in April. I would ask them just in case. They are against reloads for liability reasons, I know that much.

FS doesn't allow steel-jacketed or steel-cored ammo. Steel-cased is OK. Check the bullet (not the case) with a magnet.
