Which range allows drawing from holster.

Just getting started with IPSC and was wondering if anyone knew which pistol ranges in So Cal allowed drawing from a holster.

You should be able to practice at your IPSC range on designated practice days, shouldn't you?

If you are asking about doing it on a public range pistol line, i've never seen a range allow that in a public place. Doesn't mean none allow it, i've just never seen it anywhere i've been.

I know the free ranges in BLM are great places to practice move and shoot, drawing etc. And the price is right.

snap caps and a bedroom in your house should really cover a majority of your practice.. you'll want to proof your technique with live ammo, but for the most part, practicing at home is a great way to become proficient.

At the match... Norco, Prado, Palm Springs, Apple Valley, Pala, Piru, Oceanside, Bakersfield, West End, probably left a few out. Find a USPSA club near you and join. Then you can practice all you want.

Thanks for the info guys, guess I'm outta luck finding a closer range in the LA area, but I will take the advice of practicing with snap caps and attending matches. By the way are their any matches specifically gear toward new shooters to the sport. I have been shooting for over 10 yrs but never shot USPSA or IDPA before.

AFAIK, mostly all the matches are new shooter friendly, unless you are shooting a major match.

Just get in touch with your local USPSA club. Some have an intro class that will cover the basic safety rules for shooting the sport. This is not meant to be condescending in any way but learn safety first. Once you are familiar with all the safety rules of the sport, like someone has already said dry-fire practice at home covers a good part of your improvements in the sport.

Holster drawing especially is effectively practiced with dry-fire at home. From there you can work on alignment, sight picture, transitions, reloads, and possibly even movement (depending on the size of your home).

they have what you are looking for. They have held Free, Intro to USPSA/IPSC classes at some of the best USPSA/IPSC clubs in the Nation, close to you in So Cal (Norco Runnung Gun, Prado IPSC).

Talked to a past student at a match and he mentioned a USPSA Grand Master as one of the instructors.
