are these guns good for ipsc have one and thinking of joining an ipsc club. any idea how much is a private lesson?

XD's are great guns. I shoot an XD9 Tactical in IDPA and can shoot it in USPSA Production. With the XD40/XD45 you can shoot it in USPSA Limited 10 Division.
The XD 45 can be also shot in IDPA CDP division with downloaded to 8 round mags,
and with 10 rounders in IDPA ESP Division. In the USA, IPSC is USPSA, basically.

They are very good guns, but be prepared for fanbois of other brands to shortly post, "XD's suck for competitions. Buy a XXXX brand pistol!"

With my XD9, I've made Expert in IDPA and "B" class in Production in USPSA, and it ain't the gun keeping me from higher classifications.

The best? Kydex holsters like the Blade-Tech Stingray or Comp-Tac. But you are looking at $60-70 for the holster plus the cost of the mag pouches. Easily worth the money if you are serious about competing.

A slightly less expensive solution from Blade-Tech is this one. Material is a step down in quality than their high-end kydex, but it is still pretty good.

I like the Uncle Mike's Kydex holsters, about $25.00, if you like shooting then
move up to the BladeTec or Compac.
If you are in the NorCal area the SacValley IDPA club, SDPS, offers a beginners course, which is required now to shoot their club match. 1st Saturday of the month, preregistration is required.
And Gryff is right, (yes, I did say that) the XD will not slow your progress, no matter what all the others may say.

Nothing wrong with a XD and a Bladetech, Comp-Tac, COM or Safariland holster. That Rob Leatham guy does pretty well with his XD.

Another thing.....your back pockets are legal "mag pouches" for production

Did they just recently expand the IDPA value pak line? I remember looking a few months ago and the CZ and XD pistols were not available.

XD is a great gun, and if it works for you don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
