Bay Area Ranges?

hey guys ive been to a few ranges in the bay area such as SF, SJ, Livermore, and i noticed none that ive been to has steel targets. im just a casual shooter and dont plan on doing any competitive shooting.

my question is why dont they or where can i find a range with steel targets? am i missing something here?

You're missing a USPSA number, shooter.

Get it, and all action ranges will be open to you!

Shooting while drawing from a holster is something that static ranges will not allow you to do.

Take a USPSA safety course in Richmond, and have at it to your hearts content.

Drop by Richmond on a Saturday, and watch how shooters practice.

If you can make it on Saturday, drop me a PM, and I will give you my number so we can touch bases and get your questions answered.

By the way, I believe Concord has a steel set-up...but don't quote me on that.

First and third Sunday are USPSA pistol matches at Richmond.

The 4th Sunday (the 23rd) will be a USPSA qualifier match at Richmond.

Yes, we do have 100 yard steels at Sunnyvale...we used to have them at 25 yards too (pistol only), but had some issues with spatter. Rumor is we might get some new 25 yard steels, but not sure when.

I know you weren't interested in "competition", but here are some "low key" just for fun "matches" you should check out:

You come out to Sunnyvale on the 1st and 3rd Mondays at 6pm for our Cowboy Action shoot ($10 for non club members) and shoot Cowboy action (all steels). Don't worry about having all the gear - if you are seriously interested, wear a brimmed hat, eyes, ears, and show up. We shoot a variety of steel targets, but my favorite is a "Texas Star" - a big wheel with steel paddles that you shoot off (gets harder as you shoot them off since this makes the wheel move faster). There are plenty of other Cowboy shoots around the bay, and all are 100% steel only. Richmond has Cowboy matches, as does Chabot, and Coyote Valley just to name a few.

Oh, we also have 22 rim fire silhouette matches at Sunnyvale. Details are on the web site.

Chabot has "tactical" pistol and rifle matches last Sunday of the month. Check their website for details, but usually these are a mix of paper and steel targets. Lots of fun.
