    Advanced 1911 training in 2011

On the 100th anniversary of the famous 1911 pistol I'm looking for a 2-day advanced pistol training where ALL students and instructors use ONLY their 1911. Preference to Southern California locations but willing to travel. I'll look for some by year end. If you find any worthwhile please advise in this thread.

I found one by Gunsite in AZ but it's 5 days (I'm tempted):

250 at Gunsite is their entry level 5 day class. You will progress to the shoot houses by the end of the week but you will cover the basics in the first day or two. Larry Vickers does a 1911 operator course that sounds like what you're looking for but I have no idea where/when you'll have to go to train with him next year.

I've never attended the well-known & respected 5-day Gunsite 250 Pistol class mostly because it's 5 consecutive days and covers perhaps too much basics. Going over the basics is always good and it'll be good to know the Gunsite training methodology. I'm familiar with them through a complete set of their DVDs as well as what fellow shooting buddies have relayed to me. It's something to consider since the upcoming 1911 Centenial 250 Pistol class will spend a good deal of time on the 1911.

I've always wanted to attend a Larry Vickers intermediate or advanced pistol class. He had to cancel on us in Sep. 2008 out of Chino, CA.

I've been mulling over attending his very highly rated and recommended 3-day Advanced Pistol class in Moyock, NC on Sep. 9-11, 2011.

The Vickers Tactical Advanced Handgun Class focuses on all aspects of advanced level handgun shooting. Whether it be the Mil shooter deployed overseas, the LEO on duty, civilian concealed carry situations, or home defense. Topics covered will be review of safety, stance, sight alignment, reloads, presentation, shooting positions, and trigger control. More advanced topics will include shooting on the move, barricade, cover and concealment, weak side shooting, low light/night fire, etc. Any Shooter will leave the course with a firm grasp of advanced level handgun shooting whether it be your primary or secondary weapon during any situation.
Then, there are his 2-day 1911 Operators Class with the following dates & locations:
        • Feb 19-20, 2011 in Virginia Beach, VA
        • August 26-27, 2011 in Okinogan, WA
        • Oct 1-2, 2011 in College Station, TX

        Vickers Tactical 1911 Operators Class

This class features 1911 specific range drills that highlight the differences of shooting a 1911 vs other handguns. Specific drills and courses of fire are used to allow the shooter to understand what shooting a 1911 is all about. The real unique part of this course that makes it stand out is the day two classroom portion. In this section we teach detailed disassembly, troubleshooting, recommended and not recommended modifications, and a detailed inspection of each students 1911. If a problem is detected and can be fixed - it will be fixed it on the spot by Larry himself. This will give students the knowledge and skills needed to identify and diagnose problems. Time permitting a return to the range on day two to reinforce what was taught wraps up this an intensive 1911 learning experience. This class is a must for anyone who wants to run a 1911 properly.

***You must shoot a 1911 variant handgun***

          Perhaps you can start one?

Maybe you can work with Buck Mossie(http://www.mossietactics.com/) to have a 1911 operator class in SoCal.

I can see what I can do. It's late in the scheduling season to be setting it up, but I can try.

The Vickers Tactical 1911 Operators class is usually a basic level class for the shooting portions of the class. The other 1/3 of the class is spent on 1911 history, suggested and not suggested modifications, maintenance, dissemble/reassemble, lubrication, etc and Larry looks over every students 1911 to correct any problems if they can be fixed on the spot, or point you in the right direction if they are too much for him on the spot. It would not be a big deal to do a class were the shooting portions were "Advanced".

Or just schedule a 2/3 day Advanced class were everyone shoots a 1911.

Actually Larry has been using his new Wilson Combat Super Grade more than anything else recently anyway.

A Vickers Tactical 1911 Advanced Operators Class in 2011 in Southern California would be awesome! Probably leaning towards a 3 day than a 2 day format. What's better than an advanced 1911 class on the 100th anniversary year of the pistol with hopefully LV?!

If there are issues with three days in Chino there are other venues in SoCal.

Personally, I'm not interested in anything other than at least an intermediate class (advanced would be best).

Is Larry's new 1911 the "Wilson Combat Tactical Super Grade"? Have not shot one but people rave about them as they should at nearly $5K!
