For 3 yard target shooting, where to measure

Is the distance of 3 yards measured from the shooters feet to the target? Or from the muzzle of the gun to the target? Seems a long barrel and a long arm could cut 2-3 feet off the distance if measured to where a shooter stands vs the muzzle of the gun.

I generally step it off, scratch a line in the dirt and stand there. But seems at only 3 yards this can well be wrong.

In competition, it's measured from the fault line. That is where your feet have to be behind. Doesn't matter whether your are a midget or giant, it's the foot (fault) line. For practice, whatever distance you want. Start a 3 yards, get a tight group and then work your way back to 25 yards incrementally, then see what it looks like at 40 yards.

I agree with HighLander51. At 3 yards (9 feet), it really doesn't make much difference
