Which FO Front Sight for G17?

    Hi,

Looking for advice on a front sight. I am currently using a Heinie Slant-Pro rear sight with the matching black serrated front sight. I had an opportunity this weekend to see a G17 with a small FO dot at the top of the front sight and I really liked the way it drew my attention to the front sight. I want to keep my rear sight and swap the front out for a red fiber optic.

I have been looking around, and it seems like the two favorites are the Dawson Precision and the Warren/Sevigny. Please vote for your favorite and let me know why you think your choice is better.

I'm leaning towards the Warren/Sevigny, mostly because that's the one I saw, so pictures would be greatly appreciated of either (or a different) setup. Also, with my FFL03 discount from Brownell's the Warren/Sevigny sight is $10 cheaper. The one thing I'm somewhat concerned about is what height I need to order. I think .215" will do the job, since my current front is .210" and shoots slightly high for me.

    Thanks for you opinions.

I recently asked the same question and the majority said to go for the Dawson. I plan on ordering my set this week.

Buy the Dawson, the Savigny's are to wide.

Buy the Dawsons since you have Heinie slant pros on your Glock.

It's what most of us in my group uses and it works great.

Thanks for the opinions guys, keep them coming.

Majik- What height Dawson works well with the Slant Pro rear? I'm looking at the .105"x .225", would that be a good choice?

I use a Dawson FO front and adjustable rear. I bought the .105 but is was still too wide for my liking so I milled it down to .085

Dawson for the front, Warren for the rears (not the Warren/Sevigny...I like the "U" notch)

They give you a combination that allows a faster pickup. I've seen/used most combinations available while look for what works the best at speed

Well, I went with the Dawson Precision. I purchased it directly from DP, placed the order over the weekend and had the front sight in my mailbox when I got home today.

I was very happy to see that the front sight come with the tool needed to install it, I wasn't expecting that. It went on very easy and I used a couple drops of thread locking compound to keep it in place. I'll have to go try it out after school tomorrow, but so far I really like it. Here's a photo:

I went out and shot the pistol with the new front sight today and I was very happy with the results. I was only able to put 50 rounds through it. I discovered that the point of impact with my 147gr reloads is right where the dot is, which is exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks for steering me in the right direction, I am very satisfied with the purchase.
