Benelli M2 with a 28" barrel, too long for 3 Gun?

It will work, but cutting it down to 20-22" will make it handle a lot better.

I have seen a lot of the top guys going to 24" to 26" any thoughts?

If they are shooting "Open" it is not but "Tactical" it is way to long. IMHO

I like the 24" for Tactical. It's becoming much more comon these days. 26" - I haven't seen many of those.

For those IMA matches, where you can have longer tubes (loading > 8 in the mag tube after the start, or even at the start) - I think it's a better match. My mag tube will hold at least 10, 11 with the right shells.

The 2" of extra length, you'll never notice it in a match.

i use a pump action 28 inch Remington 870 Wingmaster with an improved cylinder choke, it'll get the job done...but you'll sure be slow!!! heh heh...still fun though. i don't even have a magazine extension on it, so i spent most of the time reloading the last time i did 3-gun

Even if you do have an extension, you'll spend a lot of your time reloading your shotgun

just a thought...I suspect the longer barrels are of interest not for its ballistic improvement or balance.....but because of the mag tube under it and its' increased capacity.....If you load your own shotshells, it's not difficult to shorten them to gain more in the magtube. I run an 870 with a 7 rd tube and it protrudes out 3-4 inches past the muzzle..it gets me one more round and in addition it acts like a porting job as the muzzle blast against the mag tube helps hold the muzzle down..

In Tactical Optics/Irons divisions, the length of the barrel has little to nothing to do with the mag capacity. Often those guys are restricted to how they start in the gun or max capacity in the gun.

In Open, I run a 22" barreled M2 with a 12 round tube. Never finished outside the Top 25, so I'll take it.

Trim it to 24", get it threaded for changeable chokes and don't look back.

Really - what I was saying the longer barrel with the long mag tube.. just looks better to me.

A 21" with the 10 round tube.. looks odd. Look at Jerry's shotgun - you'll see what I mean. My mag tube is still longer than the barrel - so nothing is getting in the way.
