    GSSF Questions

I have a few questions about GSSF...

My G17 has a Lasermax installed. I know I will have to remove the Lasermax guide rod assembly to complete in 'Production/Stock' classes, but do I need to remove the Lasermax slide lock / slide lock spring?

How large is the 10-ring on the paper targets? I have seen diagrams but none had dimensions.

There is a GSSF League match this weekend at LAX Range. Do I just go and sign up there? I haven't received my GSSF member packet yet so I don't have a card / membership number. Will they be able to access my member information?

The League information is kind of vague (on the GSSF website). Is there only one class? Or is there a class structure like the outdoor GSSF meets?

Anyone know what time the briefing is?

Thanks in advance for the information.

    - Michael.

The target used by GSSF is known as a NRA D-1, you can find the specs Here

I have used that NRA D1 target to practice the GSSF indoor course a couple of years ago. The 10 ring is pretty big at 8 inches (includes the 4 inch X ring). I have never participated in the indoor match but thanks to the heads-up from this thread I'll get myself to LAX Range on Sunday. The match is from 8am to 12pm. I'm not a member of LAX Range any more but I don't think you need to for this match. However, you do need to become a member of GSSF which you can do so there.

Here are the match dates at LAX Firing Range for the indoor league:
            August 15, 2010 from 8:00am to 12:00pm

            September 12, 2010 from 8:00am to 12:00pm

            October 17, 2010 from 8:00am to 12:00pm
At the conclusion of the October 17th match, the Match winner will be announced, all prizes, gifts and plaques will be distributed and the Glock Pistol drawing will be conducted.

Here's the email that I got from LAX Range on June 24, 2010:

            Greetings!
We are proud to announce the returm of our GSSF (Glock) League Match for 2010. Below is information pertaining to the match. Keep in mind, every shooter who competes in at least 2 of the 3 matches will be eligible to win a FREE GLOCK 19 pistol. There will also be special ammo and merchandise sales during the match.
The GSSF League Match is a series of three matches conducted over a 3-month period. Participants must be current GSSF members and compete in two of the three matches to qualify for plaques and prizes. If you are not currently a member, you may join on-line or upon registration for the GSSF League Match at LAX Range. An annual GSSF membership costs only $35.00 for new members and $25.00 for renewing members and allows you to compete in any GSSF match.
The Lewis Prize Allocation system is used to distribute awards as equitably as possible. Thus, competitors may shoot ANY GLOCK pistol. Your two best scores of the series will be totaled and averaged at the end of the 3-match series. If a shooter competes in only two matches, his/her scores are totaled and divided by two. If a shooter competes in all three matches, his/her best two scores are totaled and divided by 2.
The result is one final score for each shooter, which is then listed in the overall order in which he/she finished. The overall list is then divided into thirds, with the top one-third considered "A Class," the second one-third is "B Class," and the final one-third is "C Class." Plaques are awarded to the top competitor of each class.
Additionally, t-shirts, hats, and jackets are awarded and a GLOCK pistol is GIVEN AWAY by drawing at the end of a GSSF League Match series. For more information or to register for the match, swing by or call the range. The matches will be officiated by Nolan.

            Sincerely,

            Nolan Avery

If I am reading the diagrams correctly, the X ring is 4" and the 10-ring, which includes the NRA D-1 "A" ring is 8" diameter. The B-ring (8 points) is 12" diameter. A-ring and X-ring both score 10 points... I think.

Or am I reading that incorrectly?

LAXrange.com finally came back up (it was down this morning) and I did see that it is 8a-12p. Do they do the orientation (that you have to do the first time you shoot) all day? Or is it only at 8am? Or earlier?

Anyone know anything about the class / equipment questions I asked above?

              Thanks again,

              - Michael.

The matches at the LAXRange are pretty lose and informal, not saying the rules are not enforced but their are no "Match Nazi's". If you've nevershot or dont have your membership card yet just show up at 8am and they'll set you up. The course off ire is pretty well described on the site and they run as many heats as they can from 8-12noon. I find that the match is always freindly and the participants good natured and helpful.

As far as mods to your gun the guns gotta be bone stock forthe match, but no one really checks the equipment. The honor system is used.

Edit: Aftrer rereading your post the only thing I would worry about removeing would be the laser itself, all the other mods you describe would not really give you an advantage in this course of fire. I would'n twant the thought of haveing to strip your gun discourage you from competeing. If you want PM me and I have a spare g34 you can use for the match.

Hope to see you at the match this Sunday, the more the merrier.

                    Great. Thank you.

Another quick question. I am assuming all six courses of fire are done at once? I only have four (CA legal) mags. Can I bring my pre-ban mags (which I own legally) without having someone freak out? Or do they allow you to reload on the line?

                    Thanks again.

You should be able to use your preban magazines. Just do remember that you are only allowed to load a maximum of 10 rounds per magazine while doing the courses of fire. At Raahauge's there are four bays, each set up for a particular course of fire. This way, you won't hold up everyone if you don't have a loaded magazine for each string.

When I was practicing for the GSSF Indoor Course two years ago I thought the toughest part was 10 rounds at 50 feet in 15 seconds. It's a nice course with a balance of speed and accuracy. Nolan at LAX Range was saying a lot of people would blow the two easy stages at the end!

10+1, so you could stuff 11 in your pre-bans and avoid using a barney mag.
