July 31st San Diego Steel Match 6 stages

The summer 2010 San Diego Steel match will be held on Saturday, July 31st at the North County Shootists Association Range. This match features six challenging stages of steel targets (poppers, Texas stars, plate racks, etc.), with a total round count of 175-200 (but bring extra, steel is very unforgiving). Pistols, shotguns and rimfire (.22) are welcome. All USPSA divisions and safety rules recognized. Food and drink will be available for purchase at the range.

We had a great turnout for the May 2010 match with 80 shooters competing.

I've been to this match 4 times now and it's a LOT of fun. Let me give you a little advice before you come.

      1) Please don't bring a 22 unless that's all you have. Most 22's will NOT knock the steel down from the texas star and some of the larger poppers. 9mm is recommended at a minimum.

      2) Bring EXTRA AMMO. The club recommends 200, Bring 300-350 (400 if you miss a lot)

      3) Bring LOTS of magazines. 2 magazines will NOT make it. Many stages are in the 30-40 round count (with no misses). I personally bring 10 magazines and load them all up ahead of time.

      4) Bring WATER, LOTS OF IT. Since we are in the summer time and Pala is inland, it gets HOT out there. Also bring some snacks or you can buy food from the girls (if they are setup to do so).

      5) Wear a good hat or seek shelter. Standing outside all day long will surely earn a sunburn. Sunscreen is highly recommended.

      6) Bring a chair. There are times where your squad may have to wait to enter the bay for the match. Standing from 9am to 2pm sucks.

      7) Please, please, please help your squad reset the steel. This makes the day go much faster and we can all go home at a reasonable time.

Lastly, HAVE FUN!!! There is NOTHING more satisfying that the sound of steel being knocked down. No paper to tape = faster stages = more time in the pool!!!
