How about shooting service rifle division in highpower? doesn't necessarily have to be a service rifle only match. Up here they do M1 garand matches, or Axis Vs Allies (WWII bolt gun) Matches for special matches, but havn't been any that are only service rifle. If I were you I would look for Highpower matches around your local ranges and check that out

You could shoot matches just about every weekend. At least three groups hold reduced course matches at Angeles http://www.angelesranges.com: The Golden Bears http://www.goldenbears.org, JPL Club http://www.jplgc.org, and the LA Rifle and Pistol Club http://larcpistolandrifleclub.com, and at Lopez Canyon http://www.gopherflats.org.

In addition, there are full course matches at Burbank Rifle and Revolver http://www.brrc.org, Ojai Valley Gun Club http://www.dock.net/ovgc, Santa Margarita http://santamargaritagunclub.org, Desert Marksman http://www.dmrpc.org, and the West End Club http://www.wegc.org. Some of these are private ranges so you need to check if they allow guests.

There is a Golden Bears match this Sunday at Angeles. If you are interested let me know and I will get you in touch with the match director. They are a good bunch of guys and the matches are very low stress.

How do you do a reload with bullet buttons on ar15's during rapid fire? Is the time adjusted for having to use a bullet to reload? Im a little confused on that part.

I also need to do a new build, I just got done with the 16" ar with free floats with mid lengblah blah blah, now on to the classic 20"

Just have an extra cartridge with you to push the button with and reload. It will only add a couple of seconds to your reload. It's not a significant factor.

I think your over thinking the mag changes. I just got into the service rifle matches, and no one really practices the mag changes.... just practice shooting X's. Its 10 shots in 45 or 70 seconds if I remember right with just one mag change..... plenty of time! Most actually (including me) end up with plenty of time left. Only time I saw someone go over time, was due to weapon/ammo malfunction, and they got to shoot again!

I would highly recommend showing up at one of the above matches and checking it out. Different kind of shooting than most are used to, but its great fun!

            Just my Noobly 2 cents!

A video courtesy of Johnathan Ocab showing a string of sitting rapids being fired using a bullet button.
I've found using a bullet button isn't a hindrance to shooting High Power.

Most clubs make allowances for the fixed mag and none are needed for the BB. You can use a cartridge to drop the mag and many use the open bolt indicator.

It doesn't matter if you have a 16" barrel - as long as it has some sort of iron sights. You can shot it in the match rifle class. Enter a reduced match and a 16" barrel won't be a huge disadvantage. You're not there to compete against all of the other match rifles, you compete against yourself. Don't worry too much about the equipment, the most important thing is to get out there. You'll learn a lot, and if you decide that you want to stick with it, then start accumulating more equipment and accessories. Bring your rifle and some ammo, and many clubs have spare gear that you can borrow.
