Now I just need to practice a lot more so I don't make a fool of myself out there lol

Anyone got any videos of beginners out there? Kind of want to see where I would stand.

Start in "D" class and just go to learn. Watch your muzzle direction and LISTEN to the RO commands. Walk the stages as much as you can, visualize each location, decide on when to reload, watch the UBER fast shooters and MOST OF ALL...

I shoot Bear Creek lead through my stock barrel and its fine don't spend money where its not needed.

You can put grip tape where ever you want, no restriction there. I don't use it myself. The only thing you can't do it grind, stipple, or reshape the actual grip frame.

Voo pretty much covered the rest of it. Get some good sights (your preference, I use Dawsons on both ends). I have the same trigger job as Voo and I run a stock recoil spring. After that its practice practice practice.

Production is a fun division, I don't shot it often but when I do it looks like this and this and this

I'm in a similar boat and planning on picking up a G34 for USPSA and IDPA, I run TFO's on my Glock 30 and love them. I don't plan on doing much but adding a front FO sight to start with.....those really are a big improvement over stock.

                  Hey AA,

I'll start by saying that the more exposure you have, the better. But also, talent only gets you so far. All the A, Master, and GM class UPSPSA shooters I know typically share a very analytical approach to their shooting. It's very hard to progress to the higher levels based on pure talent. I've heard of a few guys where they were gifted with an uncanny ability to "shoot". Personally, I'm not one of those. Everyone else I know practices and approaches it with discipline and structure.

Action pistol shooting is tremendous amounts of fun but at the same time, you should look at any professional athlete and how they approach their own sport- they practice, they train, they study the game and they study the mechanics.. Shooting is no different. To do well, you need to understand what's going on and how you're losing/saving time.

I wont' overwhelm you with info, but the more you shoot, the more zen-like it'll become..
                  Aloha snackbar!

When/where is the next shoot? I am kinda interested to go see it in person just to see what it is like.

Something not too far from the Los Angeles area.

                        +1 to what Sirloki recommended.

This is THE BEST range for seeing USPSA action shooting in SoCal.

The NRG/GEN X guys put on a USPSA match every saturday at Raahauges. David*, the next time you wanna go, let me know. I would be more than happy to squad up and give you a tour of what the sport is like. Unfortunately I'm currently out of town, but I'll be back for the next weekend.

There's also the monthly match at Prado- that's solid as well if Saturdays aren't doable, but I'm not sure of their schedule. Sirloki and crew put on a match. I havent had the opportunity to go, but I hear great things about that program.

Action pistol shooting is a lot of fun, definitely come out and give it a try. Feel free to send me a PM if you have any specific questions.
