I wanted to Thank Bruce, Jerry, and Randy for a fantastic time but also Mayer because with out him this course would not have been.

I really suggest if you haven,t that you visit Bruce's website Grayguns and check out the different training courses and if any are in your area.

A good point that Bruce makes is that these courses (the two mentioned here) are meant to give you a good understanding and a basis of further self training, this is not meant to spit you out with a finished product. Only consistent practice will fully ingrain this sort of thing to the point where it is instinct.

Here is what the weekend was like just in case you are on the fence of going.

        First day: Practical Fundamentals
This course teaches the basics of what we believe a shooter needs to improve to their full potential. (this is what the grayguns site describes this class as) It also says that this is not a beginning handgun course however their were two people that had never shot before, still the pace was not too slow and they were not left behind either.

normally I think this course is a two day class (I think it was last year) but I really liked the one day set up.

first 1/3 of the day was in the class room with a large part of that going over safety, we had over 16 people the first day and each with guns on safety is important. Also a key factor in both classes is discussed, Prepping the trigger. Grip, presentation, shooting stance, Recoil management and proper sight alignment are all covered in the class but at no point was it boring. Bruce also goes over some real life stories that help drive all the points home as well.

The rest of the day is shooting I shot about 250 to 300rds the first day. This is where you do what you just learned about in class with fun drills and coaching from Bruce, Randy or Jerry.
Bruce had us all start off with making some groups this serves letting them know where you are at but also is a decent warm up as well. Drills on Prepping the trigger make a strong showing as well as this seems to be one of the biggest points on shooting well. During all the drills Jerry, Bruce, and Randy are making rounds of everyone making suggestions and giving praise. It truly seemed that there were more than just three of them they work so well together. Also I truly had to appreciate how Randy, Jerry, and Bruce handled the class I never felt like they were leading any body by the hand or on the other side trying to run a militaristic training camp, however when the class was lollygagging one good shout from Jerry had everyone moving quickly (a very useful talent.)

At the end of the day everyone helps clean up and gathers up for a debriefing and Jerry, Randy and Bruce ask what everyone thought of the course good, bad and for any suggestions. I couldn't think of any way to improve the course not only did I have a fantastic time but I came away with much more knowledge that four years of internet reading and a few other classes could provide.

        Second day: Competition course
Ok so Bruce does not have a course description on the website for me to take but this class takes what you learned in the Practical Fundamentals course and puts movement and speed into the mix. you will be shooting and moving at the same time as well as doing reloads and engaging multiple targets.

This could easily be a two day course, or perhaps it was so much fun I just wanted to do it again the next day.

not much class room time here just a good safety brief and off we went. this part of the class was done well I think the instructors would talk about a movement and why it was important and then we would do a drill using just that. I think my favorite was the drill that m.tenenhaus already mentioned. The tactical reload drill was fun and very good practice. I liked how after we all got the hang of it we were timed it added a little pressure but is a very good experience all the same. The moving while shooting was done quite well and was quite an experience to someone like me who does 90% of my shooting at an indoor range. Like everything else I felt safe the complete time Randy, Jerry and Bruce run a tight ship. last drill of the day Bruce hands out playing cards for everyone to cut (the hard way) and we go down the line trying to see who is first. I think all told I shot about 700rds that day.

Way way too soon it was time to help clean up followed by the debriefing same drill as last time really most of time is taken up by everyone saying how great of a time everyone had. A few suggestions were made and most start sharing phone numbers and making plans. Bruce, Randy, and Jerry had a surprised some of the GT targets we used were to be given away. apparently GT targets is a big supporter of Grayguns and all of the targets we used were made by GT.

After the class some of us meet up with Jerry and Randy at their hotel and had dinner. this also helped cement in my mind at least how much these classes truly mean to these instructors. They truly want us to have a great time and to learn as much as they can teach us.

I must say I had a fantastic weekend, not only did I get training by world class teachers but everyone at the class (both Days) was awesome 0 attitude no bad ego just alot of great information and great people. certainly one of the reasons of why the class was great was all the really cool people that went to it. I cant wait until next time a class comes in town again.

While at the training I had a chance to handle a Sig p226 and I must say that it was quite impressive.

Jerry also let me shoot his M&P which was worked over Rany's shop Apex Tactical (he is a pistol smith himself too) and I must say that it is a very fine pistol.

Any way long story short Awesome people awesome time
