Recommend a Handgun training DVD

I'm trying to find a good quality handgun training DVD for my cousin. Looking for something the covers the basics...maybe a series of them if they are in-depth?

Without any doubt.. Matt Burkett.

Excellent training, in a system, or technique that is well regarded for speed and accuracy.

All the above just my opinion.

Clint and Heidi put out some great videos...but I'm sort of looking for something for more of a beginner. My cousin has very limited handgun experience and I don't want to scare her away. I've asked about her taking some courses but she a little sacred of that right now...so I was hope a training video might push her in the right direction

I checked their site but didn't see anything where she lives (NH). I have spent time with her and have went over the basics. She is a pretty good shot but needs lots of work on the mechanics....more like drill exercises then anything else.

ITTS "Art of the Gun" by Scotty Reitz is an excellent starting point...not a replacement for an in-person training class, but it will absolutely make you more comfortable with firearm safety and training concepts.

"Shooting Missology" is good but Yeager's voice is soooo monotone in the video that it keeps putting me to sleep. It you can stay awake through the whole video its excellent!

You should let him know that. I notice with each video the quality and his presentation improve. Most likely due to input from folks.

I really liked this DVD over Clint's TR series. From my standpoint, he pretty much addressed a lot of the core fundamentals in shooting ANY firearm.

Clint's dvds' will show you tactics and other things in becoming a better "gunfighter" but he doesnt show you how to get your hits. Often times people will confuse tactics vs. basic marksmanship. They are NOT the same thing. The best instructors in the world can show you how to pie, move, run, jump, draw, reload, engage multiple targets with a gun but none of this addresses whether you can hit your intended target.

Over the years I've viewed a bunch of defensive and competitive type dvds (burketts, kirsch, smiths, yeagers..etc etc) Of these I really like Yeager's Shooting Missology for the beginner shooter- IMHO, he does a great job at presenting basic pistol marksmanship.

As a sidenote, if she's looking for other basic marksmanship type drills that will help her on the range, Matt Burkett's website has a bunch of flash based drills that she can interact with online. You might want to even give these a look first.

Again, basic gunhandling is not the same as tactics. She needs to be concise about what she wants to learn. Knowing one does not make you proficient with the other. If she wants both, she'll need to receive instruction for both.

Try magpul art of the handgun. It'll cover the actual grip, stance for you plus malfunction drills and advanced weapon manipulations.

It's available for pre-order $50. You can see a preview on youtube and some of their other clips. Really good stuff. But I'd highly recommend you take a couple of professional classes. Very different from range time. You might also want to take a low-light pistol class.
