    Announcement for INSTRUCTORS, please read

    Hi Guys,

I am really happy to see more traffic here, which is great.

Along with the increased number of posts we will probably need to implement the "one active thread per instructor/institution" rule, similar to the for sale section.

Why? If people have multiple threads and they bump them, they end up burying the less active posters and leads to a "BTT armsrace" of sorts. Limiting each instructor/cadre to one active post for bumping helps reduce that tendency. Posts which are being bumped by discussion shouldn't be affected by the one active BTT rule unless the discussion seems to mainly take place for bumping (PMs and editing the first post can also be used to avoid surreptitious bumping)

This isn't a rule YET, so I'd like you all to take a chance and discuss, is this a problem now? is the one active thread rule needed?

Other options would include possiblities like a separate forum for class listings, one BTT per week rule instead of per day, etc. Whatever makes sense and keeps the forum usable for everyone.

    Please discuss.

    Thanks.

I'd like to see a separate forum for class listings...possibly a sub-forum to keep it in the same general location.

      I'd have to agree...

Maybe even a calendar of events or one place people could look for specific training in their local area?

I think we should have a separate thread for training. Doing this, it would prevent a lot of the BTT's and Bumps and would allow course advertisements to be listed longer with out pushing out other threads.

A side note would be to make the training portion a sticky note so it can be added to and bumped without losing the thread or covering non-training discussions.

Another Option would be to limit the training company to one thread where they have to list all of there classes. This would definitely make room. The only draw back is, I like to see the response and how many hits to a certain course and this would not allow that.

maybe an extra forum of class listings (either in here in the FS section) and a tacked thread at the top of this forum where people can post and which directs people to the class listings forum?

I agree with both of Jason's comments (Stone Cobra) another option would be to put a training sticky under each category Shotgun, Centerfire, Handgun and direct market training to those specific sub forums. Just a thought. Thank you CalGuns for a place to advertise.

If we did an extra forum I would rather see it in the training section than teh for sale section. Just my .02.

I was just about to start a new thread in the suggestion forum when I happened to see this...

I'm utterly uninterested in reading threads about classes that teaches you how to repel ambushing zombies and I'm sure the zombie killers are utterly uninterested in reading about High power matches. There arent many similarities between a zombie killer class and high power competitions either, so from a logical stand point it makes sense (at least to me) to split the forum into "competition shooting" and "training classes".

Another reason to separate them is that most of the class threads are commercial plugs, which I'd prefer to have separate from the shooting and competition threads.

I too would like a separate forum, or a calendar, dedicated to class listings.

I don't mind that they're commercial postings. I would rather just check this thread than 5-6 different trainer's websites to know when/where courses are being planned.

yeah, not much feedback, but sooner or later we'll have to figure out a ruleset. speak up!

                        Speak up?

Any and all training classes, whether CCW, zombie defense, tactical flavor of the day etc, should have their own forum/subforum. Easy and end of debate.

The only type of class announcement that should be kept in the competition/action forum would be intro classes "IN" conjunction with a current USPSA or IDPA match. For instance RRGCs saturday intro to IPSC where you can shoot the next day in a real comp or Diablos similar class with a shoot the next day.

The difference between the two, imho, is that an intro class to IPSC is just that. An intro into shooting competition for those who want to give it a shot. Tactical/defensive/CCW/zombie etc training is something completely different and should be seperate from the competition forum where statewide and local shoots are announced and discussed.

Stats from the first page, not including the stickies.

22 threads (71%) with commercial offerings - 10689 page views
8 threads (26%) about competition, or competition related - 11254 page views
                            1 thread (3%) with a non-commercial (?) training offering

The results might look skewed because of the number of page view on the BARC thread, but when I went back a few more pages, there was one, or two, of those massive threads about matches on pretty much every page, so it might not be that skewed after all...

Commercial threads beat non-commercial threads 3-1, but the number of page views is pretty equal between them.

I definitely think that it's time to split out the commercial classes and give them their own section/subforum/whatever

Perhaps have the CCW classes in a separate forum/sub-forum since they seem to have a lot of listings.

Also, what happens when a class listing becomes the AAR for that class? Could that training organization then start a new class announcement?

Perhaps separate forums or subs for CCW, competition, matches, training DVDs/links, etc., other commercial training, AARs, etc...

                              Just thinking out loud...
