    Belt choice

Just signed up for a uspsa orientation course!

    Any belt recommendations?
Prefer tacticool battle belts over the boring race belts. Why are the race belts so ugly? No camo? What the point, mostly joking lol.

Are the majority of shooters going 2 pc belts?

Any reason I can?t use a tier 1 speed belt, or blue alpha, etc?

Most shooters use the two piece belts. Easier to remove when needed and to put your mag pouches on, especially for locap divisions.

Congrats and have fun! Does it include actual shooting or is it dry walkthroughs, how scoring works, etc.?

2 Piece competition belts (inner and outer) like battle belts operate on the same principle (one belt holds up the pants/shorts and the other can be removed to access gear and stuff). Battle belts, to my knowledge, don't use velcro while comp belts do. I only have experience with velcro, but as long as your gear doesn't fall off running around, you should be okay.

The major issue is going to be your holster being in compliance with USPSA regs. Height of gun and distance away from body are very specific. If you don't already have a dump pouch, I recommend you get one.

I run black belts because I'm boring. I also don't have sponsors or a club so I don't have any colors to rep.

Oh yeah, you asked for belt recommendations: I use the "Premium" belt from Double Alpha Academy. They run sales on occasion, so I'd sign up for the mailing list and wait for a good sale.

Their "Lynx" belt is the new hotness and looks pretty cool, but I haven't tried it out yet.

Some battle belts like this one: https://atstacticalgear.com/enfilade-belt/
do use a Velcro inner. I'm not a larper, but it's useful for non competition gun classes and 2 gun. This could be used for competition as well. The clasp is great.

For USPSA I've been using this Black Scorpion rig for a few years https://www.blackscorpiongear.com/pr...elt-heavy_duty

I'm thinking of going to a ratcheting belt to loosen and tighten while you wait to run a stage.

How to select your correct belt size: Wear your current inner belt (if you don’t have one - use any thin belt). Use a flexible tape-measure (or string) to measure your waist circumference on top of the inner belt and at least one shirt tucked in the pants. Enter that dimension be...

I think I?ve narrowed it down to the KORE B1/B2 or the Esstac enhanced shooting belt. With kywi pouches.
My current noob philosophy is the ?practical? side of the match. If my priorities change and scoring becomes my main concern I?ll buy a race kit. I like buying gear lol

Then practical shooting is definitely the sport for you!

Keep yourself open to new gear, because there is no perfect set-up. Even if that gear orients more to the competition-side. Gear innovations or priority shifts/monetary concerns will cause you go go through a lot of changes. Ask people about their gear and set-up; they will be more than happy to share information with you. Let their failures be your lessons. They will be so helpful that they will even start to give you advice you never asked for with information you know is untrue! That's when you know you've truly arrived.

The only parting advice I will give is that once you start with a specific belt system, stick with it. Don't go from belt loop to MOLLE or vice-versa. Don't go from 1.75" to 2.00" or 1.5". You will only double your cost and not have a way to use your previous gear in the new system (well, you can buy adapters, I guess). 1.75" is the standard and is probably the best choice from which to start.
