    The Tactical Games

    TTG 2023 Vegas Photo Package-576.jpg

What are The Tactical Games ? In summary, they are shooting competitions that combine weightlifting & Crossfit. The organization offers different divisions to level the playing field between the varying experience levels of competitors. The organization has set rules to complete, while there are also a few divisions specific rules. Important to note that men are required to wear a 15lb vest while females are required to wear a 12lb vest during the event stages.

Over the years, I have concluded that the majority of the firearms industry is lazy. We have created this concept that these tools give us the upper advantage if we were engaged in a defensive situation but fail to recognize the physical aspect of defensive situations and the importance of fitness. These unique events give competitors the perfect place to combine functional fitness along with firearms training.

My first TG event was in Pahrump back in September, 23 which was hosted by the PrairieFire facility (old Front Sight location). I chose to register for the Tactial division as I?ve been active within the Crossfit community for the past two years and felt that Tactical was appropriate for my abilities. IMO, the stages are well designed and provide the competitors to see how well rounded their skills are. Although most stages had a heavy fitness aspect to them, there was also a dedicated rifle stage with targets ranging from 25-300 yards and a pistol aggregate. I ended up in 8th place out of the 25 shooters in my division.

It did get a little wet, but the competition continued in good spirit. A great way to test your equipment!

My second competition was just this past weekend in Sierra Vista, AZ. I stuck with the Tactical division as I felt I was competitive in the previous event. Overall, I feel like the stages were overall a bit more physically demanding but again did a good job at testing a variety of skills. This time there was a rifle stage that had targets anywhere from 120-460yds followed with a 2.2 mile run with your gear. I did not perform as well as I would have hoped, placing 11th out of 28 shooters in my division.

Also, my girlfriend decided to complete at this event (first shooting competition) as she spectated the Pahrump event and didn?t want to sit on the sideline again. She had some gear to obtain but absolutely killed it, especially for only shooting an AR platform 2-3x prior. She ended up placing 2nd in the Women's Intermediate division. I almost had more enjoyment watching her excel at the event and work through manipulations, positions, and even malfunctions that we had covered in training weeks prior to the competition.

We are registered for the Utah even in September and am looking forward to training leading into the event!

I saw some of that. One thing I learned is that there's no easy way to run with a slung rifle. Lots of different techniques were used.

Some of those gals looked like they could hold their own in the modern Army. Over 6 feet tall, and pretty darn strong looking.

My friend who competes in precision rifle matches went to one that includes rucking between the shooting stages.

There has been a trend in PRS competition towards really heavy rifles in 6mm BR/Dasher/GT cartridges, all sorts of support bags, bipods and tripods.

Competitors could use whatever equipment they wanted as long as they carry all of it for the duration of the match.

He said whereas the conventional PRS rifles had M24/MTU/Truck-Axle barrel contours, the rucking match rifles had medium Palma or lighter contour barrels.

Hey! That is a true statement. Running with a slung rifle isn't the easiest of tasks. Lots of different preferences but you can make it work.

There are definitely some badass ladies out there competing. It's still a male dominated sport but I give huge props the the females that show up and throw down.

Sorry for the late reply. I don't get on the forum much these days.

It's interesting to see the different trends within the competition shooting matches. Even on the PRS style. The balance of heavy yet stable/accurate equipment vs cutting weight buy maybe sacrificing a little accuracy/stability.

The organization who puts on the Tactical Games also does long range ruck style events. Looks like a lot of fun but I can't begin to play in the LR arena. That exceeds my budget. haha.
