*NEW* Patriot Academy ?Members? Check-In Here!

Looks like Rick Green has re-created Front Sight in Fredericksburg, TX. Curriculum looks similar, rumor has it that some FS instructors are there teaching, range layout looks similar, etc.

Pricing, at least currently, is at $100/day and the facility is taking shape. Schedule is posted on their website at the link.

Here?s a place to consolidate info and experiences from Patriot Academy.

If you?re not a fan of Front Sight / PrarieFire / Patriot Academy and just want to talk smack, please start your own thread.

I’ll at least give it a try. Good friend has an 11 year old that he was waiting to take to FS to start getting him up to speed. We’ve talked about going in the fall and testing the waters.

I think FS was great at breaking in new shooters and hopefully, PA will continue that legacy.

I’ll probably give it a try if the costs are reasonable. So, no membership requirement like FS? Everyone starts with Fundamental Handgun?

What’re the lodging costs around the school?

        Nearest airport?

I heard Chachi is teaching there. Hope it’s just as detail and safety oriented as FS used to be.

No rifle classes for now, right?

I just know what I’ve read on the website:

          - No membership
          - $100/day
          - Everybody has to start with the basic course
          - Fly into San Antonio or Austin
          - Hotels in Fredericksburg, TX

I’m assuming that more classes are coming, they’re just trying to build a pool of people that have been through the introductory class.

I really hope Chachi isn’t there. I know a lot of people liked him but I was one who can’t stand the guy. It would be a deal breaker for me to travel there and be on his range.

Hopefully someone will post some first-hand info from attending a class. They’ve run 6-8 classes so far so, someone, somewhere, should be putting info out on the interwebz.

I’ve just done a bit of a research. The hotels in Fredericksburg, TX are plenty. They can be as cheap as $79 and all the way up to the $200s. Did not research if these places offer free breakfast, however.

The drive from Austin airport is about 87 miles and the drive from San Antonio is about 68 miles. This compares to 40 some miles from Las Vegas to Pahrump. Ticket prices on Southwest Airlines from San Jose to Austin international is about $190–200 at the lowest fare. From San Jose to San Antonio is a bit cheaper.

There seems to be three gun shops in Fredericksburg. There are plenty on the way from Austin or from San Antonio.

So the overall cost of taking a class with Patriot Academy may not be that much more expensive compared to the proposed pay-per-day Front Sight 3.0.

Best of all, the wife didn’t completely veto the idea . She thinks spending an extra day at the San Antonio Riverwalk might be fun!

Let’s see how the early adopters feel about the classes. We have no opportunities for class until 2024 anyway.

Won’t attend just because of the distance. Otherwise I hope he is successful. best of luck to them.

Surfed a little to try to find an AAR from someone who’s been to this thing. Wasn’t able to find anything except this vid. Standard Front Site fare, right down to the range commands.

                  The range looks good!

I guess the turf makes the brass clean up easy.

They can use industrial riding vacuums to clean up.

It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S.
