It depends on the places for the rules.

Yikes…guess I asked the wrong questions. Sorry if I offended anyone here. Was just curious. For what it’s worth, I’ve been a firearms enthusiast all my life, a contributing CG member for years, a Life member of the NRA and a US Military Veteran…so I’m hardly a “Narc”!!

Well, a "friend" said he "saw" some people using "high capacity" magazines get used in rifles with "regular" mag-release buttons...

Of course, they could have been RAW (registered assault weapons) and perfectly legal. No match directors seem to ask or verify when I use my RAW, although some well-intentioned people at the public ranges "offer" suggestions to be careful since they think my rifle is "illegal".

              I know right...............

              1) Steel Challenge is comprised of 8 stages for 5 strings of fire for 5 rounds each. While "more" ammo would be helpful, 10 is more than enough and if one is using more than that they are not competitive anyway.

              2) The clock stops after each of the 5 plates have been hit, ideally after only shooting 5 rounds and then between each string of fire a new magazine is reloaded.

THERE IS NO RELOADING ON THE CLOCK.

Steel Challenge is even highly competitive with a non missing Revolver.

              *****************
Also, look at the rules............ regardless of state location, some divisions in Steel Challenge don't allow for more than 10 rounds anyway. Limited 10, Production, and Single Stack for instance.

If one needs a quick reload after expending 10+1 on a string of fire for 5 targets in steel challenge with a RIFLE, then well................. I hope you're still having fun.

Well, thanks for you kind responses guys…that’s all I’m looking for. I competed in Cowboy Action events years ago and would like to get back to competing. I’ve got a TTI Glock, mags and belt rig ready to go. Also a PPC and tricked our 10/22. Just need to decide which event to start with. LOL

And guys, I now realize asking these questions on this forum was not the best idea and I do apologize.

No other responses are needed … as Mesa Defense suggested, I’ll just go and find out for myself.

That's just what I'd expect a narc to say

We're just giving you "the business". Don't take it personally.

The best thing to do is bring your ear and eye protection and go watch a match, and ask questions while you're there, if you have any.

Getting started is hard, watch the first time and it's much easier to start.

I agree, it's useful especially for folks interested in competition in CA. Even if the answer is, come on down and find out.

I've competed in USPSA (action pistol) ICORE (action revolver) IDPA (defensive pistol) and NSCA ( shotgun sporting clays).

If you're interested in competing in any of these, my advice is grab your ear and eye protection and go to a match.

Tell a match official it's your first time and you have questions. They'll be happy to show you around.

If you're in Orange County, I'll be happy to help you.
