San Jose Zouaves is a high-power rifle club with the aim of encouraging organized rifle competition among civilian shooters with an emphasis on safety, fundamental marksmanship, firearms knowledge, and good sportsmanship.

On the first Saturday of the month (The next one is September 4th), the club partners with Santa Clara County and hosts an introductory course in high powered rifle fundamentals. Basic training on the operation and accurate firing of rifles is provided first, followed by a scored, 40 round competition.
Completion of this course also serves as "proof of skill" to join the Zouaves as a club member, which means you may participate in our Third Saturday competitions, and special themed matches after joining with a $40 annual membership fee. Membership and participating in this match also qualifies you to purchase M1 Garands through The CMP.
Membership is not required for participation in any 1st Saturday event.

When: September 4th. Check-in is at 8:30am. It runs until about 1pm, but you can stay longer to hang out or shoot more if there's space.
Where: Santa Clara Field Sports Park (Metcalf) 200 yard range. Here's a map for parking and meeting locations.
Cost: $20 +ammo (See below).
Your Rifle: If you have rifle experience (1 year+ of range time, or some other formal training) you may bring your own rifle, or borrow an AR15 or M1 Garand. If you are brand new to rifles, we loan you a Savage Bolt Action in .223. Rental of the rifle is free.
Ammo: If you are shooting our ARs or Savages, they take commercial 55-75grain 5.56 or .223. The Garands take M2 Ball 30-06, usually sold as "Garand" 30-06 on the box.
You can buy your own and bring it, or we can sell you 40 rounds for $30 which you may use on the range, but no unspent rounds may be taken home.

Targets: We are now running on ShotMarker Electronic Targets, so you can bring a smartphone or borrow a tablet from us and see your shots live! They're very cool, and make the process a lot faster and easier than trying to find .223 holes in paper at 200 yards.

It's a fun time, and you not only get to meet and shoot with other South SF Bay rifle enthusiasts, but it is also a nice low-cost introductory course to rifle marksmanship, with opportunities to work on your long game.
