After a 5~6-month absence from USPSA (thanks to the ammo shortage) and a 1-year hiatus from the Production division (due to aging eyes) - a much welcomed come back by winning my first plaque in a local trophy match, Oh Shoot! Team Birador Cup 2021, for a C-class win. Woot...!!!
Yeah, my first and last trophy match was in 2018 when I ended the day with a DQ due to breaking the 180 from the lack of knowledge/experience -
after which it has just been local club matches, etc. around once a month, if ever...
... I really put in the effort going into the match... After a 2-day class with Tim Herron, and a "warmup" match on the 12th, it has been daily dry practice focusing on transitions with 50-rd live fire twice a week; albeit unfortunately, conservative drills that are within range regulations (1-shot/sec, no holsters, etc.).
Although there has been several snafus (reload, hesitations, wrong execution, etc.) and areas to work on, in particular, efficiency of movements and stage planning/execution - I am quite satisfied. Especially for a mid-40s desk worker like me... Hhhmmm... Was actually surprised since I had lots of Mikes, etc.
My setup consisted of
And although my 34 has a KKM barrel, Springer Precision grip tape and a 13# stainless steel ISMI guide rod assembly - it was running a stock OEM trigger assembly with a minus (4.5) connector and a Wolff 5# striker spring.
This win just inspired me to get out of my mediocre rut and push however I can, at least, until the next trophy match coming this September. There are just LOTS of stuff to remedy! And since I am one of the few that don't have the luxury of live fire practice from dry practice to a match [to validate my dry practice] - it is what it is that I will treat the club matches as practice. Maybe have one or two stuff to work on and just push, totally disregarding the score. Let me see if I can make myself participate in matches more than once per month (we shall see - been saying this for many times now).
That said - just to work on the feedback loop - I superimposed my stage run with one of the top B class shooters. Interesting indeed to see where I break down in my execution and where I lag in terms of fundamentals... A snippet from the first two stages -
