Custom Glock question - legality

i'm looking at putting together a glock 34 gen 3 for 3-gun competition. I started thinking about the parts would swap out and wondered if it would just be cheaper to put one together with the parts i want from the get-go.

i definitively want a different slide, but isn't the serial number on the slide? i've looked at glock pics and the only place where i see number that look anything like a serial are on the slide. people change their slides often, but at what point to i have to register this and with what part? i'm hoping i don't have to have the original slide with the serial # on it as proof. i just rather buy all the custom parts and build it.

so which part is essenially the firearm? it seems that many online stores will just ship me what i want. i went thru checkout and nowhere did it ask for an FFL (like when i added a full lower gen 34 frame) all i had to do was hit "buy" but something has to be wrong with this scenario.
so what do i do to keep everything legally done?

The frame (lower) is the part that is considered the firearm and has the serial number on the bottom where the rail is (on a Glock).

Even though the slide and barrel have the serial number that doesn't matter as those parts are considered replaceable. So for the purpose you mentioned, you'll be able to replace everything on the Glock accept the frame (including the internals) and it's still considered the same gun.

I was confused bc an online vendor was allowing me to check out without providing FFL info (obviously I didn't xheck out bc something didnt seem right), but i assumed that the slide carried the serial#, which is also wrong, hence my question.

Bare pistol frames are not on the handgun roster so no, you cant. Occationally you can find an FFL that will sell you a complete gun, then buy the slide/barrel back but thats rare. The easiest thing is to buy a used gen 3 17/22/31/34/35 (all the same frame) and sell off the top end and replace caliber specific parts in the lower for what your using.

Buy a gen 3 34, send it to TTI, get a grip job, trigger job, and sights. Everything else is cosmetics. You don't need a different slide for competition. Some of the best competitors that use Glocks, shoot Glocks with minimal upgrades.
You're better off spending money on ammo, range time, quality training, and matches than upgrading a brand new gun with fancy slides that don't offer any real performance upgrades.

It was probably going to get kicked back. Or ask for FFL at the payment page.
Or he's not above taking your money and then not sending you the firearm because it's illegal and that's on you to know.

Or maybe it's a sting.

I really doubt you would have magically got an actual fully serviceable Glock frame from an on-line vendor without an FFL in the process.

In building my own "race gun" on a G17 frame with a G34 slide and all the nuances getting it to work with "improved" function, trigger, sights I find myself reverting back to OEM parts.

I'm just saying, if you're not into tinkering and tuning you might not want to stray too far from the OEM ignition system, and springs.

That said, my Glock Match guns are running pretty well, and easy to shoot while staying inside the rules of what Glock considers STOCK.

1) Talon Grip Tape. $20
2) New Sights of your choosing $50-$100
3) Minus (-) connector $25 (these are OEM connectors from the G34s)

That goes a long ways to making a nicer shooting Glock for under $200

Also, consider, if for 3-gun, there's a good chance an aftermarket slide might not fit in a conventional holster.

I have a Glock 34 I use for 3 gun. TTI Grandmaster trigger kit, TTI sights & Talon grips. Works well for me.

Glock 17 and 34 are the same frame...

the 34 has the (-) connector, extended slide stop and maybe a slightly extended mag release... but the frames are the same

If you are going to change the parts, I would get a 17 frame as they are more available...higher production volume and slightly lower cost...

i read something about there being an extended or longer cycle on the 34. i'm not sure if that has anything to do with the frame, but i think the person said it somehow related to the frame. i'll try and look in my browsing history and try to find out what he said exactly.

You don't need to look anything up. The frames are identical.

yeah, i watched a video from "the glock store" then eplained compatibility of different generaions and slides, and the presenter explained that the frame was the actual "fire-arm" part and showed where it was, under and front of trigger guard. so it's like an AR in that respect.
