SF Bay - Regarding all of the new and potentional owners out there

I figure most of us are current owners, but maybe you aren't, or you want to weigh in.

Santa Clara County is putting out the feelers for a new owners event to introduce them to their firearm and things to consider when owning (laws, operation, range rules) with a live fire section. The price point is going be at most $20 for three hours.

Do you know of anyone who might be interested in this? Think it'd be handgun or rifle? There is a pretty solid plan in place, but I'd also hear any suggestions about it too. It's sort of a new thing for us to offer, but it's a nice opportunity for the gun community to reach out to the new owners and welcome them in.

My take on this? (not that I am not answering your question)

This should be a post in the California Handguns or General Discussions forums, IMHO. Based on my observation, especially in the past few months where there was a peak in new owners, etc. it is very rare that new owners, beginners, etc. venture forth from top-listed (or more popular) forums into this sub-forum, much less know of its existence. I even had a few responses to a few threads directing new owners to this forum, etc.

Additionally, AFAIS (I could be mistaken) - most of the members here are experienced shooters more or less (just look at the recent topics)... So, again, this post should be directed to the new owners who currently browse through the above-mentioned forums.

That said, forums rules are rules - training-related stuff should be in the Training forums. Unless of course, you can phrase your post a bit "different."

Just my few $$$ before heading out for lunch (WFH).

I actually started to draft it in the handguns sub, but I wasn't sure since it falls more under "Training". I wasn't totally sure who I could contact to see if it was okay, rather than drop it there and get it deleted/moved.

In principle, I think it's a great idea. I don't personally know of anyone up there who might benefit (I'm on the Central Coast).

Getting the message out and perhaps having a dedicated page with info on the course and its instructors would be nice.

As for the mix of guns: hard to say. If we think of recent buyers being in "panic mode", I would imagine that you'll see a bit of everything (well maybe not bolt-action rifles).

Our local range runs a somewhat related program for ladies every month called "GALs" (Guns and Ladies). The program receives funding through Friends of the NRA so the event is free and covers safety on all platforms (the guns are provided by the range). Their listing on Eventbrite sells out in a day. They have a dedicated FB page and upload albums worth of happy smiling faces. Needless to say, they aren't afraid of what the web thinks. They're just going to do it.

        Good luck with it!
