NNPC fun pistol match June 13 at Burro Canyon

Hi, guys. It looks like we will be able to resume our monthly matches starting with 13 June, as long as were practice social distancing and wear the mandated face coverings. We start at 9 AM. Cost is $35 to cover range rental, targets, pasters, etc.

We are into the dry season, so expect to be shooting paper targets instead of steel. I will try to make it challenging. 3 gun stage follows the pistol stages.

I also have a request for any member who will be able to assist me with a pickup truck. I have assembled a rifle rack and a shooting barricade that need to be transported to the range. If anyone can help me out with this, give me a call at (626)679-5593 or email me at alrich77@hotmail.com. I live in the Glendora general area.

Thanks again, and I hope to see you at the range!

Any thoughts on participating with the recent/current virus situation?

Actually, I can see one possible advantage because I was a big fan of the Lone Ranger when I was a kid.
So if I shoot a stage really well at this match I might hear someone say, "Who was that masked man?"

I like it! Maybe we should have set up for our OK Corral Match, which we usually do in October! Cowboy guns and all!

I expect the mask rule will only be when in close proximity to others. Probably won't need them when shooting a stage but will leave that up to the individual.

No Name Pistol Club. We were originally one of the aircraft manufacturer's pistol club a couple decades ago. Now we are just an informal group that holds monthly fun action pistol matches, generally following IDPA structure and scoring. We used to keep track of scores and award trophies by class, but now it is just for fun and your own use to measure improvement, etc if desired.

We welcome newbees and youth. My son started at age 12. It is an easy, relaxed way to dip your toe into competition to learn the process and see if you want to get into the serious matches offered elsewhere...or just to have fun drawing from the holster, shooting and moving, etc.

Very excited. I expect to be rusty.... but I'll be just happy to go shooting again.

We generally say 9mm/.38 SPL or above, but have gotten lax about that for beginners. We have let some youngsters shoot rimfires. No restrictions as to sights, etc. A holster is used, but if you do not have one we can start you from the low ready position. (We often do that with beginners anyway, depending upon their experience.) We are a cold range, in that you load when you are on the line and it is your turn to shoot, as directed by the Safety Officer. Mags can be pre-loaded, just not in the gun until you are on the line.

You generally want to have at least 2 magazines and 4 is better.

The three gun requires a rifle, shotgun and handgun, of course. The rifle may be anything you want, except full auto. The shotgun can be anything you want, but we require birdshot as buckshot tears up our knockdown wooden targets too fast. If you do not have an appropriate rifle or shotgun, bring a box of .223/5.56 and a box of 12 GA birdshot and I am sure you can use someone's firearm. People have used their hunting shotguns.

No mag restrictions unless the match is designed for a mandatory reload.

I was not able to make it as I woke up yesterday with a headache and other symptoms. with everything going on, I decided it best not to go. It was allergies as it went away after the allergy pills started working, but that was almost 10 AM. I heard there was a good turnout, with 15 shooters.

How did it go? Everyone have fun? Any problems we need to work on?

It was great getting out of the house, and with around 6 months of not having shot it was a great feeling slowly shaking the rust off. I also got to function test for the first time the AR I got just before the lockdown and the mags I had left loaded at home for my handgun / rifle. Nice to know that everything would have worked if it had to come down to that. I know of at least one first time gun owner that attended; hope he had a great time. People seemed to enjoy the impromptu firing line that was setup after the match had concluded; I know for sure that I did.

Yes, we have the range for the whole day, so attendees can use it after the match. That makes it handy for those who have other guns they want to shoot or sight in.

Thanks for shooting with us - come back! Second Saturday of every month - same range, same time.
