IDPA Matches

Going to shoot my first IDPA match. I want to go into the CCP division or similar. Has anyone here shot IDPA match at the Richmond Rod and Gun?

Does Richmond require everyone to be an IDPA member.?

No you do not need to be an IDPA member.
The IDPA guys are a friendly bunch. Tell them it's your first match when you sign in and they will take care of you.

Richmond is a great place to start and very low key. You might also want to check Ukiah. They are a smaller match, but again, very friendly. The Ukiah folks are also very willing to answer questions and help during your match. Just remember wherever you go, make sure to tell the MD you are a new shooter so they can put you with some people to help. Also let the RO on your squad know.

The main thing is to just be safe. No one is going to care about how good or bad you shoot as long as you are safe. If you have any questions about the course of fire or anything safety related, you gotta ask.

They are a very "new shooter" friendly range.

Great Match

I shot the Sunday match and had a great time. The last 2 of the 9 stages for my squad were shot in the pouring rain which was very tough but fun. The participants ranged from newbies to seasoned vets and everything went off without a hitch. Richmond puts on a great & safe match and I encourage anyone on the fence about competing to give them a try.

Easy to say for the man who came prepared with an umbrella

I really enjoyed shooting with your crew...and the deviled eggs were delicious...it really was a fun match and a good introduction for newer shooters

If you're interested in a bit higher level of competition, you should consider coming up to Sacramento for one of our two sanctioned matches.

The Reloaded match (Tier II) in May has stages we've shot from various matches around the country last year

The Western IDPA Regional (Tier IV) match is in October with some of the best shooters in the nation attending
