    Mag pouch placement

Hey guys - so I have a buddy who's invited me to start shooting the wednesday night steel challenge shoots at Prado, and I was giddy at the idea of being able to get involved in competition shooting at a local range, as I've never been able to get in on weekend matches (I work quite a bit)

I knew I needed some gear, and decided to just get something that will last and I won't have to upgrade later (I've learned the buy once, cry once theorum with the firearms world)

Been a fan of Ben Stoeger, so checked out his pro shop. Had a package deal with x5 ghost mag pouches, DAA premium belt, blade tech holster and his signature boss hanger system for said holster.

Been working on my draws, first of all. I know the steel challenge doesn't have rapid reloads, but eventually I want to shoot IPSC as well, and I'm wondering where my mind should be when "setting and forgetting" these pouches on the belt, before I start really practicing with the reloads. Anything I need to keep in mind? Newbie looking for some pro tips. Pictures of your rigs would be helpful if possible.

Very excited to get into some action shooting!

    Thanks!

What division do you expect to be shooting? That may dictate your placement.

Wednesday night steel shoots at Prado? Are these open to the general?

Still learning how the divisions work... but I'm gonna be running a glock 34 with irons. Sorry for my ignorance!

And yes, I believe it is.

This is how I have things set up currently. Yes, I'm a southpaw.

If you decide to shoot production division in IPSC/USPSA then I believe the firearm and mag pouches have to be at/behind your hip bones (not in front) which your setup looks like it'll be. Assuming you keep your Glock 34 stock you're good for production. You can do some minor changes like sites (not red dot) and still stay in production.

Oh, wow. So I'll be reloading from the small of my back at points? Interesting... good to know.

Yes, your rig looks good to go for Production. 10 round limit in all mags after the start signal. Find your hip bone with your fingers and move everything right up to that limit.

When I load up I pull my last mag from my belt and rarely do I need to pull that second to last mag. You'll be amazed how quickly you can do it if you need to.

On a side note, it is often necessary to add some Velcro tape to the inside of the mag pouch clip to give your outer belt some additional sticky surface for the inner belt. Otherwise, with all of those mags together like that you have a very large area with nothing holding your rig in place. It can cause problems.

I have the same exact setup from Ben. I'm also a lefty and I have mine setup like you. First 2 mags bullets out and angled back a bit and the next three bullets forward. The last two holders are angled forward because it's easier for me to reach.

I have a similar set up from Ben. I went with the DAA mag pouches. One reason is they use a smaller/thinner piece of metal to attache to the outer belt. I have not had any issues with the belts staying attached together.

                        hope to see you there.

i went to the first match and it was fun.

my only concern is that as we head into end of Sept, unless you start shooting right at 5pm, it will be too dark to safely shoot by 6:30-7pm unless they start bringing out flood lights. around 7:20pm during this first match, it was starting to get dark enough that the steel targets were blending into the background as they did not respray the targets every few shooters so it was all grey from the lead.

Yikes... I'm sure that will be addressed. Perhaps one of us could bring flood lights to help out and a can of spray paint?
