    Sight picture

    Hello all,

I'm new to shooting, (less than a year) but I love it! Anyways, when I'm getting my sight picture I either get 2 front sights or 2 targets, is this normal?

Also, how do you know if you should hold at 6 o clock, center of your target or what?

I have a gen 3 Glock 27 if that helps anything

Two sights like you are getting cross eyed? If so try squinting your none dominant eye a bit. If that doesn't work then just close it shut.

      6 o'clock or center?

Where do your sights hit? Normally only "target" pistols are set for 6 o'clock and then usually by the shooter -

Most target sights will hit at the tippy top of the front sight, while combat sights will hit where the dot covers.

Not normal if you have good vision. Do you wear glasses, or do you have "old" eyes? Perhaps get your vision checked?

You want your focus to be on the front sight, not the target. The fronts should be in focus, and the target should be a blurred target.

I have 50+ year old "tired" eyes and I switched to speedsights on my Glock 17. Here is their website: http://www.speedsights.com/

They have helped me a lot!

          1. no, you should not be seeing two sights and two targets. that is not normal. are you looking through one or both eyes? have you checked to see what your eye dominance is?

          2. empirically, that's how you learn your hold for those particular sights and the ammo you're using. in other words, you gotta shoot it and find out. point of aim versus point of impact. as noted, you can buy and install different sights to change this.
Competition is where you find out you're slow, can't see well, are not accurate, have poor gun handling, can't visualize, have equipment that doesn't work and either accept it OR DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

You can put a small piece of tape on the lens of your glasses over your non dominant eye to stop that. The frosty type of scotch tape works well as it still lets light pass through.
