    USPSA gun question need help.

I recently got a gun that was sold to me by my uncle. Long story short he's since retired and travels often so he has no need for this particular gun. From what I can gather its an STI 2011 with 8K 5551 stamped on it. Aside from the obvious markings I have no clue who or even if he used a gunsmith to complete this build.

I do not know anything about USPSA shooting nor competition shooting in general. I have read some info about it and honestly Im not really interested in competition shooting. Anyone know what I have and whats its worth? I have seen some on the STI website but not really sure, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Its in 38 super with double stack mags.

      Post a pic
From the sounds of the numbers, it sounds like the first generation of STI frames that were produced.

Run of the mill STI open gun.

What it's worth? In the free world $1500-2000. In the rarefied air of the PRK's gun market $2500-3000. As with all YMMV.

This is NOT an entry level competition gun. To use it to it's true potential you need to load your own ammo and be willing to push your loads.
If you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine.

First of all thanks for the help, secondly sorry for the lack of knowledge on my part but whats PRK's and YMMV? I thought I wouldn't be able to use factory ammo and unfortunately I don't reload. Thanks for your help.

                  YMMV You Mileage May Vary.

You can use factory ammo, the gun should run just fine, BUT you will not be making full use of the comp. On my 38 Super Open gun I wing a 115gr bullet out there at about 1500 fps. This generates plenty of gas to drive the comp. The gun shoots amazingly flat, I've shot .22's that recoiled more

Actually, there is one or two manufacturers making 38 super open gun ammo.. It is loaded to the potential of the cartridge and is supposed to make major power factor. It is loaded in Europe and it called Geco (and it's made by RWS under contract).
